Carol Barshop Obituary

Carol Louise Barshop

ELK GROVE VILLAGE - Carol Barshop (nee Nordstrom) passed away on June 11, 2024. She was surrounded by her loving family and wonderful hospice caregivers.

Carol leaves behind Myron, her husband of 67 years; her three daughters, Suzanne Thompson, Lori (Ron) Mihalcean, and Julie (Ray) Wirtz; her seven grandchildren, Christopher (Jessica), Scott (Emily), and Andrew Wirtz (Saar Kuzi), Katrina (Bill) Pacheco, Amy Zebrowski (Steve Nager), Emily (Ryan) Bentley, and Carolyn Mihalcean (Ari Hodosh); and six great-grandchildren, Micah, Claire, Cece, and Monte Wirtz, Will Bentley, and Leonardo Pacheco.

Carol was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, nana, great-nana, and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Carol was an avid reader and gardener, who loved dominoes, crocheting, doing word puzzles, bowling, and her Chicago Cubbies. Most importantly, she cherished time spent with her family and friends, and exuded a compassionate and generous nature throughout her life. She entertained her visitors and caregivers with her witty repartee until her very last days.

A private memorial will be held at a time TBD for Carol's closest loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Children's, lovetotherescue.org or St. Jude, www.stjude.org.

I think about 'Sherry' Carol and miss being able to just walk around my block for years to visit. I have been in AZ now for 3 yrs, but great memories of having lunches and dinners with her and the other ladies!! We all worked together back in the 70s and 80s!! Since we all worked together for at least 15 yrs, we all remained friends and she would talk about ALL her grandkids and catch us up on what was happening! God bless her spirit this holiday!

The Leszczynski family was lucky to have been next door neighbors with Carol and Myron for 31 years. She and Mick were as sweet as could be, and never was there anything but love and helping each other out as neighbors should. We are still getting used to the idea that Carol and Mick have not been in their home for many months now, and we miss them dearly.

Carol was totally family oriented, and her grandchildren were her pride and joy, following in the footsteps of her own three daughters and spouses. We loved her sense of humor, with her ability to act exasperated on the surface while being in on the joke all along. I was honored to have been added to her cast of highly regarded male figures in her world, her fantastic son-in-laws Ray and Ronny, and myself, Rory, as we were knighted the three Rs. The other sweetest thing I will always treasure, is the day when I visited her in hospice and she called Sonjia, "a lovely lady." In her decline, she went out of her way to make us feel good. Those words hold deep meaning because Carol herself was the epitome of what a lovely lady is and here she deemed my wife to be a Dame. Dearest Carol, bestower of love and beauty to all, we all will miss you.

I am so sorry to hear about Carol's passing and am so lucky to have talked to her and was able to see her a few days before her passing. She was a great friend and co-worker. There were four of us who stayed in touch long after working at Elema. We spent a lot of time taking turns playing cards and rotating houses. She is at peace and looking forward to the next Kentucky derby with her friends. She is missed!

Carol was the best friend anyone could ever have and she surely was mine and I feel so blessed to have all the wonderful memories of our times together, many of which included her beautiful family. I will miss her presence but she will live forever in my heart. Love and condolences to all of the family, Pat (who) Hall

I was so very sorry to hear the passing of your mom Carol. She and I worked together at e l e m a 35 years ago and we remained friends ever since going out to lunch with the rest of the girls. I'm now in Arizona but when I move back to Elk Grove in 2001 happily Carol was only a block and a half away from my house so I would stop by once in awhile so we could catch up and chat. I was hoping to see her in August and I'm so sorry now that I've missed out on our last conversation that we could have had. All my sympathies to your family and she will be missed
