Carol Marie Bechta, of Essex, NY, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2025, at the age of 83.
Born on October 4, 1942, in Holyoke, Massachusetts, Carol was the cherished daughter of John DesFosses and Claire Remillard. She grew up surrounded by the love of her family and the beauty of New England, forming the kind and generous spirit that defined her throughout her life.
Carol pursued her education, graduating from American International College in Springfield, MA. Her commitment to service and community led her to a distinguished 20-year career with the Town of Niskayuna, NY, where she served as the Administrative Supervisor in both the legal and public works departments. Her colleagues remember her as dedicated, compassionate, and always willing to lend a helping hand.
Carol married the love of her life, Donald Bechta, with whom she shared more than 60 joyful years. Together, they built a home filled with warmth and laughter, especially during the holidays, which Carol treasured as a time to gather with family and celebrate the bonds that meant so much to her.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Donald; her loving children, Paul (and spouse Sarah) Bechta, and Dianne Bechta; grandchildren Jamie Bechta, Lainey Bechta, Kari Cabral, Jess Cabral, Sarah Piedmont, and Kiliaen Piedmont; and her siblings John (and spouse Sandi) DesFosses, Pamela (and spouse Bill) Stone and Wayne DesFosses. Carol was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Aloe Marie.
