Sherwood Roger Hart, Sr., passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on August 26, 1939 to Arthur Hart and Grace Miller in Keeseville, New York, Sherwood dedicated his life to his family, community, and his work at SUNY Plattsburgh, where he served for 27 years, notably as the Supervisor of Grounds. Sherwood was a proud veteran of the United States Army having served from 1959 to 1962. His service to his country was a point of pride, reflecting the values of duty and sacrifice he carried throughout his life.

Sherwood's passions extended beyond his professional life; he was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved camping in Whallonsburg with his family, where he enjoyed playing horseshoes by the Boquet River, creating memories that will last a lifetime. Known as a "jack of all trades," he was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, embodying the spirit of community and kindness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his granddaughter Tara Hart; as well as his siblings Alma (George), Viola, Shirley (Lloyd), Rosemary, Alfred (Isabell), Jack, George (Francis), and Mae (Ernie).

He is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy, and his loving children: Rickey (Lori) Summerlin-Hart, Sherwood Hart, Jr., Nancy (Randy) Roes, and Lowell (Kimberly) Hart; grandchildren: Andrea Hartin, Lindsay Perez, Kenneth Summerlin, Michael Brooks, Justin Rice, Michelle Roes, Austin Roes, Craig Harris, Tyler Hart, and Kelsey Kashula. Sherwood also embraced the joy of being a great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather.

A visitation will be held on Friday, October 31, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the United Church of Christ in Elizabethtown. Following the visitation, a graveside service will take place at Lewis Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. where he will be interred with military honors, amid the beauty of the Adirondacks he so loved.
