Carol J. (Hickey) Blemle, 78, of Gillett, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, NY.

Born February 23, 1947, in Painted Post, NY, Carol Jean was the beloved daughter of the late Frederick and Mariam (Walters) Hickey. She graduated from Painted Post High School in 1967 and continued her education at the Del Kader School of Beauty Culture in Elmira, where she trained as a hairdresser.

On June 17, 1967, Carol married the love of her life, Carl Blemle, at the Painted Post Methodist Church. Together, they shared 58 devoted years of loving marriage.

Carol was known for her tireless work ethic. She spent many years serving the Gillett community as a hairdresser and housekeeper, continuing her work until health challenges made it no longer possible.

A true lover of the outdoors, Carol found joy in nature's beauty. She was an accomplished hunter, especially skilled in archery and rifle hunting for deer and turkey. She also took pride in preserving the harvest from the family garden, filling her pantry with home-canned goods.

Carol leaves behind her husband; Carl at home, a sister; Lois in California as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents, Carol was predeceased by a sister Joyce.

In keeping with Carol's wishes, services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Carol's name may be directed to a charity of one's choice. Memories of Carol and condolences to her family may be shared by visiting www.peppperfuneralhomes.com.
