LIMA -- Carol Ann Chiles was born on June 1, 1941 at Lima Memorial Hospital.
She taught the primary grades at Irving Elementary School for 30 years. She loved her students and her colleagues. After her retirement from education, her strong sense of community led her to work for Crime Stoppers with the Allen County Sheriffs Department for several years and was instrumental in helping start Lima's Safety City. In 2009 her strong love for family and her strong fondness for ice cream and Coney dogs, led her to work for her nephew-in-law at Pete's Ice cream. She retired from there in 2023.
Anyone who knew her, knew her love of dogs. Her dogs were some of the most pampered pets on the planet. As her family, we know she is being greeted in heaven by the dogs she cherished. They are getting treats, toys, and hugs. Family and friends were important to her. She loved a good meal, good conversation, and having coffee most every day with her next-door neighbor, Nelda. She loved to read, shop on QVC, and crochet. Many lucky people were fortunate enough to receive a blanket she crocheted.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Donald S. Chiles, her sister-in-law, Betty L. Chiles, her parents, Harold and Tressa (Marshall) Chiles, nephews, Jay Chiles and Scott Chiles She is survived by nephews Jerry (Sue) Chiles, Michael (Cheryl) Chiles, niece, Donna Sue Chiles and a small horde of great nieces and nephews who will sorely miss her at future family events.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until time of services at 11:30 am Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Andrew Shields officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Deb's Dogs or First Baptist Church.

My dear friend. My life has been so much more blessed to have had you in it. We didn't get together as much as we should have but I was so fortunate to be able to call you my friend.

Carol was a lifesaver for our family. When our oldest daughter was at Irving, I, her mother was in the hospital. Carol, with her beautiful heart, stepped in to encourage our daughter at school. I have never forgotten. I´m sure she is surrounded by her fur babies but also the little children in heavenMary Wilkins
