Carol Cohen, 85, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025. Born on January 5, 1940, in North Adams, Massachusetts, Carol lived a full and exciting life marked by creativity, adventure, and deep devotion to her family.
The daughter of William and Lillian O'Brien, both now deceased, Carol was raised in North Adams alongside her siblings-her beloved sister Barbara Reardon of North Adams, MA, and her late brother Billy O'Brien, also of North Adams.
Carol met and married the love of her life, Donald Cohen, on July 9, 1960. Together, they built a life filled with love, resilience, and exploration. Their journey took them across the United States and abroad through Donald's military service, with homes in Alabama, New Mexico, Texas, Indiana, Massachusetts, Germany, and finally Oklahoma, where they settled in 1976. In 1989, they made a bold move to Canada, later relocating to Statesville, North Carolina, before ultimately retiring in Edmond, OK. Carol later moved to Duncan, OK, after Don's passing in 2021.
Carol enjoyed her home immensely and found great fulfillment in her creative passions. She was a talented cook, loved working with charcoal, and had a special gift for flower arranging. Carol was also an avid reader and loved books. Her artistic spirit, quiet strength, and warmth left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Carol is survived by her loving children: Susan Harmon and her husband Scott of Duncan, OK, and Leslie Grant and her husband Mark of Derby, KS. She also leaves behind two cherished grandchildren, Dalton Grant and Alex Grant, and one great-grandchild, Theo Grant.
Carol's memory will be treasured by her family and friends, who will remember her as a woman of deep love, creativity, and enduring grace.
The Vigil will be held on Thursday, September 18, at 6pm in the Whitt Funeral Home Chapel. A Catholic service for Carol will be held on Friday, September 19 at 2pm at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Duncan, OK. Carol will be laid to rest next to her husband on Saturday, September 20, at 1pm in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Arkansas City, KS. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.
