Carol A. Cornetta passed away on April 3, 2025, surrounded by love and the caring staff at Brookfield Pueblo. Carol spent her life devoted to her family and community. Carol was proceeded in death by her parents, Santa and Rudolph Glach and husband Lee S. Cornetta. She is survived by her brother Ed (Mary Ann) Glach, sister Eileen (Rudy) Gallegos, sister- in-law, Barbara Cornetta, and children, Stephen L. Cornetta (Kristin Shapiro) and Anne (Jared) Hahn. Carol cherished the relationship and time spent with each of her siblings, many cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews.
She was a lifelong and proud Pueblo native, donating time and talent to many of her favorite causes. A trait that left an indelible impression on her children's lives. As with her husband, Carol enthusiastically cheered for all Colorado sports teams and vocally kept hope that someday the Rockies would "be better" (to the exasperation of her daughter every year). The Cornetta home was always filled with warmth and love created by Carol and illustrated through her from scratch baking, pasta making and successful attempts at new recipes. One of her true "love languages" was food and she relished opportunities to host friends and family for a night of delicious food and laughter. When she wasn't puttering in the kitchen or perusing her massive cookbook collection, Carol could be found tending to her beautiful garden, planning a road trip across the US, laughing with friends or discussing life updates with her children. Carol's genuine laugh and squeal (from good news) couldn't be missed.
After graduating with a bachelor's degree from Southern Colorado State College Carol earned a master's degree from the University of Northern Colorado and carried a zest for learning throughout her days. Carol remained an avid reader, history buff, education advocate, counselor and debater. A trained rehabilitation counselor, Carol eagerly lent her ear to help others at their time of need. Carol's positive influence no doubt helped her children succeed as they embarked on their own educational and career goals.
In 1968, Carol was introduced to her lifelong partner Lee via mutual friends. They would go on to be married and partner in leading their family through celebrations and sorrow with love and laughter until his passing in 2023. Above any success that was achieved, Carol always saw her family choosing and enjoying to spend time together, and with extended family members, as their biggest success.
In memoriam of Carol and Lee, a scholarship fund has been created at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
A celebration of life memorial service for Carol will be held on Saturday, April 26th 10 a.m. at Angelus Chapel Mortuary.
