Carol Wells Howrigan, a beloved member of her community and cherished matriarch of her family, departed this world unexpectedly on June 28, 2025, in Burlington. Born on August 23, 1945, in St. Albans, Carol lived a life dedicated to service and love, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.

Throughout her life, Carol wore many hats with grace and skill. She worked diligently in the accounting department at Fletcher Allen Hospital, showcasing her meticulous nature and commitment to her profession. Carol also pursued her passion for creativity by owning her own ceramic business, where her artistic spirit thrived. As a school librarian at Westford Elementary School, she inspired countless children to embrace the joy of reading, always fostering a love for literature in her students.

Carol's greatest joy came from her family. She was a proud mother to Michael Howrigan and his wife Sherry Lulek, and to Susan Symonds. The laughter and warmth shared at family gatherings often resonated with the delicious meals she lovingly prepared. Carol was often viewed as the keeper of the family, the heart that brought everyone together. Memories of her son’s and daughter-in-law’s wedding ceremony, where she served as a Justice of the Peace, remain treasured moments for all.

Along with family, Carol explored the beauty of the world, traveling through 46 of the lower 48 states—missing only Oregon and Washington—and visiting five provinces of Canada. These adventures were filled with moments of wonder, where she delighted in birdwatching, tending to her garden, and finding joy in her favorite birds, the Catbird and Cardinals.

Her personality shone brightly in her community; Carol was known for her helpfulness and friendliness, embodying the spirit of volunteerism. She took on leadership roles within the Eagles Club Auxiliary in Milton and contributed her time and energy to the senior citizen group as well as the parent-teacher group. With dedication, she served as treasurer of the school and briefly led as a den leader for the Cub Scouts.

Carol leaves behind her loving husband of 60 years, Frank, who was her steadfast partner through all of life’s journeys. Their bond was a testament to enduring love, and together they created a nurturing home for their children and grandchildren. She is also survived by her adored grandchildren: Duncan, Gerhardt, and Maeve Bissonnette, and Matthew and Gregory Pierce, who will always cherish the time spent with their beloved grandmother. She is also survived by her siblings, Ruth Casey, Dwayne Wells and Marilyn Prevuznak.

As we remember Carol Wells Howrigan, we celebrate her legacy of kindness, dedication, and love. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, and the memories they created together will continue to inspire warmth and joy in their lives.

Visitation will take place on July 6, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Minor Funeral and Cremation Center in Milton. The funeral service will follow the next day, July 7, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Georgia Plain Baptist Church with burial to follow in Georgia Plains Cemetery. The Eagles Club will host a celebration of life following the burial service.
