Carol M. Hughes, 88, of Lake Katrine, NY, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY. Carol was born on February 15, 1936 in Kingston, NY, daughter of the late Fred and Madeline (Noble) Scharp. Carol was married in 1960 to the love of her life, Thomas L. Hughes, they would be celebrating their 64th wedding anniversary on Tuesday June 25th, the day of her funeral.
Carol was a Kingston High School Graduate, Class of 1953, and later graduated from the Benedictine School of Nursing in 1956. Throughout her career Carol worked at the Benedictine Hospital Maternity Floor, IBM as an Industrial Nurse, and for Dr. Lewis Neporent in Kingston. Carol was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and a former member of St. Catherine's Altar Rosary Society.
Carol liked flower gardening, working on high school reunion committees and loved traveling with her husband to Europe. Carol enjoyed family gatherings with everyone but above all, the love of her life was her three grandchildren.
Carol is survived by her loving husband, Thomas Hughes of Lake Katrine, her children, Debbie Hughes of Fishkill, NY, Diane Hughes of Charlotte, NC, and Patrick (Rhodella) Hughes of Katonah, NY, her grandchildren, Kyle, Ryan, and Kiersten Hughes, her sister, Sharon (Peter) Feisthamel of Stow, OH, and her nephews, Jimmy (Carol’s Godson), Brian, and Kevin Feisthamel.
Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Ave., Kingston, NY 12401, where family and friends may visit on Monday, June 24, 2024 from 4pm to 7pm. The funeral procession will form at the funeral home at 10am on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 and will proceed to St. Catherine Laboure RC Church, 200 Tuyten Bridge Road, Lake Katrine, NY 12449 where at 11:30am a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Kingston.
