Carol May (Geiger) Jackson was born on May 22, 1928, near Waterbury, Nebraska, to Ernest and Faye (Cleveland) Geiger. She attended country school and later graduated from Allen High School in 1945. After teaching at the Way and Oakdale country schools, she married her high school sweetheart, Gaylen Jackson, on March 1, 1947.
Carol embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity. She enjoyed traveling to all 50 states, Canada, and Mexico, and took great pleasure in card games such as Pitch, 500, and Somerset, as well as bowling and playing dominoes. Time spent with family and friends was especially dear to her, whether camping, fishing, or boating-often in tents and campers-creating memories that will be cherished for generations.
A devoted and active member of Allen United Methodist Church, Carol served faithfully in many roles. She taught Sunday school, sponsored youth groups, attended young adult fellowship meetings, and held numerous leadership positions, including District Treasurer of United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the ELF Extension Club and the Rest-A-While community club.
Family was the heart of Carol's life. She devoted herself fully to loving and caring for those around her and took great pride in each and every family member. She will be fondly remembered for her homemade meatloaf and chocolate chip cookies, her faithful attendance at school and community events, and for supporting everyone involved in creating what has grown into a five-generation farming operation.
With gratitude for a life well lived, Carol leaves behind her children: Carol Jean Stapleton of Allen; Dale (Loretta) of South Sioux City; Kathy (Larry) Boswell of Allen; and Kim (Tony) Gattis of Lawrence, Kansas; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Jerry Jackson of Castle Rock, Colorado, along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gaylen, with whom she shared 73 years of marriage; her parents; two sisters, LaVerna White and Dorothy Andrews; one brother, Jim Geiger; a son-in-law, Jim Stapleton; and one grandson, Lanny Boswell.
After living a long life that she herself described as "a good life," spanning more than 97 years, Carol will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
