Carol Ann Komp (nee Giencke), age 81, of Rubicon, WI, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Carol was born on May 20, 1943, in Hubertus, Wisconsin, to her parents Raymond and Katherine (nee Wick) Giencke.
In 1968, the family moved to a farm in Rubicon that was built around 1850. Carol was fascinated with history of the local area and spent countless hours researching the original settlers of the area and the progression of Rubicon to present day. All of that work is on display with her deep involvement with the formation of the Neosho / Rubicon Historical Society and Museum as well as the publication of The Rubicon Township Sesquicentennial book. Many times she took her children to scour the neighboring farm fields for Native American artifacts and has a very nice collection of stone arrow points dating back thousands of years.
Carol enjoyed tending to her flower beds and yard and making sure the many wild birds were well fed and had clean bath water.
She loved to hang out and play with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She kept many books, toys, and snacks at the ready for their visits.
Carol tended to her two cats for 17 years, Mouse and Mr. Princess. If they could talk, they would tell you they were the best cared for cats of all time. Well, one would purr and the other hiss. If you knew her cats, you know who is who!
Carol was also a dog lover. She had many different dogs over the years with German Shepherds and Golden Retrievers topping the list of her favorites. A poodle, various mutts, and even random strays found loving homes at the farm.
Her infectious smile and great sense of humor were always on display. Whether in conversation or in the meticulously selected birthday cards with witty notes, these qualities were evident.
Carol is survived by her children Christine (Fiancé Tim Hiteshew), Michele Komp, Janine Ackatz (Fiancé Tom Pocian) and Jeff (Leann) Komp, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Carol is further survived by her siblings Janet Panten, Jeanne Murphy, Kathleen Giencke, Linda (Ed) Moline, Daniel Giencke, Laura Holl, and Joan (Richard) Jacklin, as well as other relatives and lifelong friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Katherine Giencke, daughter Cheryl Ann Komp, her sister Mary Anderson, and brothers in law Dick Panten, Tony Holl, and Mike Murphy.
The family would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to everyone who cared for Carol from Aurora Clinic, Aurora Cancer Center, Aurora Home Health, and Preceptor Home Health and Hospice. Your care and attentiveness for her went above and beyond and we are forever grateful.
