Memphis Charles Komp passed away on May 17, 2025, in
Waukesha, WI. Born on December 31, 1994, in Milwaukee, WI. Memphis blessed our lives with joy, light, and laughter from the very beginning.
A kind and creative soul, Memphis had the unique ability to brighten the lives of those around him. His infectious smile, quick wit, and hilarious impressions could lift spirits and bring joy to any room he entered. He always had the most random and interesting things to add to a conversation. He was known for his generosity and willingness to help others, always ready to lend a hand or offer a kind word and support when it was needed most.
Memphis' compassion extended beyond people to all living things. He had a deep love for animals and cared for many beloved pets throughout his life. He also found peace and happiness in nature; whether hiking, building a fort in the woods, or simply enjoying the quiet beauty of the outdoors, he felt most at home surrounded by the natural world. Like his Grandpa Pete, he loved to be up north and was never afraid of hard work or getting dirty.
As a child, Memphis was described as the "square peg we were trying to fit into the round hole". He had an eye for the unusual and absurd. He followed the path less traveled. Memphis had a twinkle in his sparkling blue eyes and brought a sense of adventure into all things he did. Self-described as "messy" and "weird", he was also wise, artistic, philosophical, and poetic. He saw wonder and beauty in the little things in life.
He worked hard in all that he did and approached life with both determination and heart. Memphis felt things deeply and struggled to balance his inner light with the challenges and realities of day-to-day life. "Good with the bad, smile with the sad", he would say. He was always hopeful, and despite these challenges he remained resilient in the face of his struggles. He fought so hard, and we are so proud of him.
He was and is deeply loved and cherished by those who knew him, including his mother Cheryl Komp (Arendt), father John Komp, sister Cassidy Komp, brothers Baxter and Nick Komp, his beloved partner and best friend Michelle Miller, and his grandmother Margie Arendt, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, coworkers and pets. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Peter Arendt and Charles and Nancy Komp.
We have heard from so many that "he gave the greatest hugs".
May his memory bring a smile, a chuckle, or comfort to those who knew him and may he feel our pride, love, and hugs on his next grand adventure. We will love and miss Memphis all of the days of our lives. Our hearts are broken.
"Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars" – Kahlil Gibran
