Carol Michal, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in Turner, Oregon, on June 21, 2023, at the age of 94. Born in Broken Bow, Nebraska, on February 5, 1929, to Grace and George Ellingson. Carol was known for her unwavering kindness, love for learning, and passion for life.
Carol lived in a lot of different locations; her home was in Oregon (McMinnville, Bandon, Turner) but her heart was always in Alaska. Other states included Nebraska, Michigan, Texas, California and even lived abroad in Turkey.
Her professional journey was marked by her compassionate heart and willingness to help others. Carol spent much of her career as a caregiver for the elderly, providing comfort, companionship, and care to those who needed it most. Her strong work ethic also led her to work as a cook and in various diners, where she was always ready with a warm smile and a helping hand. She equally loved all babies and would never turn down an opportunity to love on them.
Carol was a woman of many interests and hobbies, each reflecting her zest for life. She found great joy in gardening, nurturing plants with the same love and care she extended to her family and friends. During the winter months, Carol would often engage in arts and crafts, with a particular fondness for embroidery and beading. Her creativity and meticulous attention to detail were evident in each piece she created.
In addition to her love for arts and crafts, Carol had a deep appreciation for nature and animals. She cared for ducks, geese, and chickens, treating them as part of her extended family. She also spent a lot of time feeding the multiple birds that frequented her homes. Her favorite hobby, however, was rock hounding, a testament to her adventurous spirit and curiosity about the world around her. She could remember each story around each one she found.
Carol was preceded in death by her siblings, Jim, Randy, Emma and Jack.
She is survived by her children, Steve, Jerry, Alan, Randy and daughter Sandy, in addition to her many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Each of them will remember Carol for her unwavering love, wisdom, and the joy she brought into their lives.
Carol's life was a testament to her strength, resilience, and loving nature. She touched the lives of many with her kindness and generosity, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she met. As we remember Carol, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, and service.
