Carol was born in Negaunee, MI on July 14, 1947, a daughter of the late Ellen Katherine (Tuohimaa) and Elhart Leonard Skogman. Carol was a lifelong Republic resident and a graduate of the Republic-Michigamme High School, Class 1964. Carol was also a graduate of the NMU School of Cosmetology. Carol worked for numerous years as a hairdresser at Shears Hair Salon in Republic.
Carol will be remembered as a kindhearted member of the Republic Community and quietly served wherever she was needed and had received the Republic Twp. appreciation award. Carol was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church where she had served on the church council. Carol was also active with Republic Community Services, the Rabbit Club, the Republic-Michigamme Library Board, as a Girl Scout Leader and on the Republic Twp. Board of Review. Carol enjoyed time spent with family and friends, attending concerts, going to camp, side-by-side rides and traveling.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Richard W. Nicholas of Republic, a daughter, Tammy (Mark) Kaminen of Republic, a sister, Margery Giachino of Iron Mountain, grandchildren - Travis (Sarah) Starkey of Quinnesec, Taylor Kaminen of Grand Rapids and Rachel (Raffaele) Masi of Negaunee, sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Bob) Dickey, Beverly Evans and Kris Nicholas, along with 13 godchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. She was preceded in death by a daughter Kelly Jean Starkey, infant brother Keith Ardean Skogman, and a godchild.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00am - 12:00pm on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Republic, where Funeral Services will follow at 12:00pm with Rev. Alex Ross officiating. A luncheon will follow the services in the church hall. Interment will take place at the Republic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Bethany Lutheran Church, 110 Poplar St., Republic, MI 49879 in Carol's memory.
