Carol Grace Pitonyak, of Commerce, passed away on July 23, 2025, while surrounded by her beloved family. She was 88 years old.

Carol Grace Pitonyak was born on January 8, 1937 to Douglas and Grace Gammage. Carol was always learning and teaching throughout her life. In high school, she joined the Photography Club and Yearbook. Her hard working personality was evident when she be came the class Valedictorian. In her college years, Carol earned her Bachelor of Science while assisting her professor in teaching comparative anatomy, where she met her late husband, Andrew Pitonyak. Although she said she would never marry a doctor, Carol couldn't help being attracted to Andrew's character, honesty, and Christian values. Andrew admired Carol's intelligence, companionship, and devotion to Christ.

Together Carol and Andrew built their life together through many phases and places. Out of college, she worked as a medical technologist, and once Andrew finished medical school they moved to Kansas where he did a stint in the Army. During this time, they brought two babies into the world; a daughter, Robin, and son, Andrew. After the Army, they moved back to Michigan

where they developed and cultivated Carol's dream of a farm with vegetables, horses, cows, goats, pigs, chickens, and more. She was specifically passionate about organic farming and living practices. Despite these interests not being Andrew's, he always supported Carol and did his best to make her wishes come true.

Andrew and Carol were very committed in their relationship and also in their pursuit of Jesus. Carol was greatly involved with the Church. She was always studying, learning, and applying Christ's word, whether it was through bible studies, books, services, or family and friends. Carol was quite active until the day before her death on July 23, 2025, at 88 years old, when she started to feel extremely tired and unwell. The morning of, her daughter, Robin, was with Carol to hold and comfort her as she passed away in her home.

Daughter of the late Douglas and Grace Gammage, Carol is survived by her children, Robin (Daniel) Delaney and Andrew Douglas (Michelle) Pitonyak; grandchildren, Nathan Delaney, Nicole (Derek) Langley and Sarah Delaney, Catherine and Rebecca Pitonyak; siblings, also many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

Carol is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Andrew Darl Pitonyak and granddaughter, Heather Delaney.
