Carol J. Schoning, 82, of Cairo, GA, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2024. Born on December 29, 1941, in Cleveland, Ohio. Carol married her high school sweetheart Roger in 1962. Throughout her life, Carol touched the hearts of many through her Christian faith, story telling, and creativity. Together with her husband, Carol spent many years in the two and three year old department of the Children's Ministry at Church of the Open Door in Elyria, Ohio. In her spare time she enjoyed many crafting activities, gardening, leading a Brownie troop, and cooking for her family which lead to the opportunity to run a catering service for the church. Over the years and throughout a variety of moves, Carol and her husband were devoted members of Faith Lutheran Church in Avon, Ohio; Church of the Open Door in Elyria, Ohio; Belden United Methodist in Belden, Ohio; Good News Church in Saint Augustine, Florida; and Living Faith in Cairo, Georgia.
She leaves behind her beloved husband of 62 years, Roger Schoning and will be missed by her brother Clarence Maruna, Jr. of LaGrange, Ohio.
Carol is survived by her four children Timothy; Christine Smith (Mark); Laura Williams (Mark); Daniel (Kimberly); 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as brothers Carl Maruna and Charles Maruna
A memorial service is planned for later this year.
