Carol L. Signs, 67, passed away unexpectedly on September 12, 2023, following an automobile accident. She was born on January 3, 1956, the daughter of the late Derwin and Marjorie (Fuller) Taber.
Carol was an exceptional woman who dedicated her life to the service of others. Her career as a Licensed Practical Nurse spanned 45 years. During this time, she touched countless lives with her compassionate care at many of the area nursing homes and even across state lines in Connecticut and Vermont while she was employed with Visiting Nurse Service of Ithaca. She was also an instructor of Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in the county, reflecting her lifelong commitment to health and wellness.
Married to Lloyd Signs for 49 wonderful years, Carol was the beloved mother of Wendy Hoaglin and Diane (Larry) Wise. She was a proud grandmother to David J. Clark and twins Cailyn and Jack Hoaglin. Her family was the center of her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Carol was the dear sister of James (Terri) Taber, Gilbert Taber, and her twin sister, Cheryl "Cherry" (Jessie) Marroquin. She was also a cherished sister-in-law to Timothy Sopko, and Lois Michalosoki as well as a daughter-in-law to Hazel Sopko. Carol was predeceased by her father-in-law, John Sopko, her sister-in-law, Judy Taber, her son-in-law, Carl Hoaglin, and her brother-in-law, Wayne Sopko.
Her faith was a cornerstone in her life. She was a devoted member of the Flemingville United Methodist Church where she served as a lay-minister and was instrumental in planning and organizing many fundraising activities such as church meals, breakfast, luncheons as well as dinners. She was ever eager to foster a sense of community and shared joy.
A lifelong learner, Carol was always eager to expand her knowledge and skills. She trained in Lay-Ministry, enjoyed painting and crafts, and continued to further her education in health care. Her good-natured spirit and love for helping others were evident in all she did.
Carol's legacy is one of love, service, and faith. She left an indelible mark on those she met, whether through her work as a nurse, as a teacher, or as a dedicated member of her church community. Her passion for learning, her unwavering faith, and her love for her family and friends will be remembered by all who had the privilege to know her.
A Celebration of Her Life will be held at the Flemingville United Methodist Church on September 23rd at 11:30AM. For those who wish, memorial donations may kindly be directed to Flemingville United Methodist Church located at 540 West Creek Road, Owego NY, 13827 in loving memory of Carol L Signs.
