Carol Singleton Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 9, 2025.
Carol (Girod) Singleton, of Crystal, Minnesota, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family at the age of 78. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ron and Irene Kreatz, and her angel, Mildred Yentsch.
She is survived by her loving partner, Tom Slattery, children Jeff (Kathleen) and Joe (Sandy) Girod, grandchildren Grant (Claudia), Ian, Ahna, Maria and Julia Girod, sister Kay Marie (Bob), brother Lloyd Kreatz (Bonnie), sister-friend Linda Fleury, cousin-friend Patty Cooley, Erica Slattery, Tom Slattery Jr. and many beloved relatives and friends.
Carol and her sister began teaching neighborhood children dance in their parents' Robbinsdale basement, turning it into a business that has lasted more than 67 years. They were pioneers for women in business and in the dance community. In 1968, they founded the Minnesota Dance Contest, which drew studios from across the Midwest. Through countless performances at hospitals, nursing homes, and community events, dancers from Kay Marie and Carol's studio brought joy to others while learning the importance of giving back- especially to the elderly and those in need.
Carol taught dance to generations of children, which she cherished and considered a privilege. She taught with grace and kindness, and it was her life's work to ensure every dancer felt special, loved, and more confident than when they began. She never worked a day in her life; the dance studio and teaching ballet was her happy place. Her legacy continues with the next generation of teachers and students.
As a friend she was loyal, generous and loving. She felt blessed to meet many amazing people during her time and was extraordinarily grateful for her friends. Carol loved spending time camping (Tuttle's), fishing, traveling and spending time with her friends. She loved going on cruises, and she and Tom had many amazing adventures together.
Carol deeply cherished her family and was a devoted, loving mother and grandmother. She found joy in every moment spent with her children, whether exploring new places or setting off on adventures. In later years, she continued those traditions with her grandchildren- sharing laughter and love on trips to dance camp, Jellystone, birthday cruises, and simple backyard campouts.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Mary Broughten, PA-C for her compassionate care and support.
"Don't weep at my grave, for I'm not there. I've got a date with an angel to dance in the air. I'll be singing in the sunshine, wild and free, playing tag with the wind while I'm waiting for thee."
A funeral service will be held at 11:00, Wednesday October 15th at Central Lutheran Church, 333 S 12th St, Minneapolis, MN 55404. Visitation one hour prior to the service with a reception following where all are welcome to gather and share stories.
Memorials preferred to Sharing and Caring Hands in lieu of flowers.
