Carol Spanbauer Obituary

Carol Jean Spanbauer (82) passed away peacefully on March 13, 2025, after a long battle with dementia.

Carol was born in DePere, Wisconsin on July 19, 1942, to Richard and Vera Clark Ames and lived her entire life in Oshkosh. She married her high school classmate, Larry Spanbauer, on February 9, 1963, and was married for 55 years before he passed away in 2018. Carol attended Read, Merril and Oshkosh High Schools and had many life-long friendships. Carol had a wonderful laugh, could play the accordion, and loved her family, her dogs, cottaging, Christmas, and gardening. Her gardens were part of the 2015 Oshkosh Garden Club Walk.

She is survived by her daughter, Barb, her son Paul (Michelle) (both of Oshkosh), her son Jon (Allison) of Chicago, and three grandchildren: Kaitlyn Spanbauer of Oshkosh, and Madeleine and Margaret (Mollie) Spanbauer of Chicago.

Carol's family would like to thank the staff at Park View Health Center for her wonderful care and for the countless miles they walked with her. Donations can be made in Carol's name to the Oshkosh Garden Club.

A celebration of Carol's life will be held in Oshkosh on July 19, 2025. Carol will be interred with her husband at Lakeview Memorial Park.

Carol was my MS mentor when I was first diagnosed with MS. She was a ray of sunshine! So delightful...my friend to chat with and talk about our flower gardens. After she stopped coming to our support group I´d chat on the phone with her and recall a visit at her home for a few times just to chat in living room and of course a tour of the . Carol was one of a kind so bubbly and positive. Loved her family!

As neighbors on South Westfield street years ago, we shared good times and enjoyed watching our young children grow. Survival of the tornado in '74 brought us close. Carol always had that smile. It is good to know she is at peace and joining her Larry now.

Carol sat next to me in choir at Oshkosh High School and got me my very first babysitting job for Dr and Mrs Elbing which then led to my job at Elbing Animal Hospital that I loved. She was always so kind to me and I have very special fond memories of her. My sincere sympathy to her family.
