Carol Thornton, Ph.D Obituary
Dr. Carol Lynnette Thornton, Ph.D. was born in Fort Dix, New Jersey on July 26,1957 to Carl Lee and Daisy Edna Thornton. The Lord welcomed her home with open arms on October 28, 2023 in Freeport, Florida.
Carol received her education in the Richmond County school system in Augusta, Georgia, graduating from Glenn Hills High School (1975). She then attended Fisk University, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude, with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (1979). Afterwards, she continued her education at the University of Georgia with a degree in Master of Sciences in Clinical Psychology (1981). Carol didn't stop her collegiate education there. She completed her education by pursuing a Doctorate of Philosophy and Clinical Psychology (1984) at the University of Georgia.
Carol welcomed with love two exceptional daughters: Adriene on October 6, 1983 and Christina on February 7, 1994.
Carol was a licensed clinical psychologist for thirty-five years. She also operated her own independent private practice for more than ten years. She was a contractor with the Department of Defense. Her passion was working with and helping children and families. She worked with several companies/organizations throughout her extensive professional career (Eglin CBOC Behavioral Health Services, Department of Behavioral Health, Landstuhl Regional Medical Center)
Carol loved traveling around the world, immersed in different languages and cultures. She traveled to a multitude of countries in Europe during her time living in Germany. She visited Spain, Switzerland, Paris, Greece, Amsterdam, England, Netherlands (but just to name a few) and many other countries. Carol's dream destination was to travel to Spain by the age of 50. She achieved this dream at the age of 60 (60 is the new 50) with her beloved sister, Adriene, in Europe. Her favorite sport was football. She loved her hometown team, the Atlanta Falcons.
Carol was a once in a lifetime woman. She was independent, beautiful on the inside and the outside, caring, supportive, a great listener, selfless, intelligent, fun loving, focused driven, giving, classy, adventurous, regal, direct, genuine, a lover of knowledge and an extraordinary mother. To know Carol, it was truly to love her and be graced by her spirit.
She was preceded in death by: Carl L. Thornton Sr. (father) and Daisy E. Thornton (mother).
Carol leaves to cherish her memory: her daughters; Adriene (Kevin) Nock and Christina Thornton (James); four granddaughters, Lynai Symone Nock, Lyriq Samiya Nock, Meadow Carleigh Wilson and Maeve Charleigh Wilson; her brothers and sisters, Darryl (Janet) Milligan Sr., Carl (Cora) Thornton, Jr., Alicia Canaday and Adriene Thornton; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of family and friends.
A Memorial service will be held on Monday, November 13, 2023 at Davis Watkins Funeral Home in Defuniak Springs at 1474 US Highway 83 North, Defuniak Springs, FL, 32433, beginning at 10:00 A.M.

Carol wasn´t just my work mom, but my friend and family. I once told her "I have to leave the clinic before you, I don´t know what I would do here without you." I know she will always be with her loved ones. She made you feel that way no matter what. Carol made everyone feel loved and truly cherished by her and I only hope I could´ve made her feel the same way. She´s always in my heart.

Carol and I ran a therapy group together. She taught me SO much but would never shy away from telling me that I taught her something, too. She never failed to make you feel loved and included in her life. We used to goof over the temperature in the room but get along because we LOVE Coca Cola, we can´t help it. It was an honor and a privilege to be her family and her be mine.

Dr. Thornton became my office neighbor working at Eglin AFB. She always joked she got lucky to be working in thr cool site of the office "the southside" haha. I have so many great memories with Dr. Thornton she truly was an amazing loving person who has so much love for people. I am so thankful I got to meet her and we got to share some good laughs.

She was an awesome coworker. The kind you could tell your darkest secrets to. She loved everyone and was truly an angel on Earth.
