Carol Thur Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Anderson Funeral Home - Augusta on Oct. 15, 2025.
Carol Thur, 84, of Menomonie and formerly of rural Fairchild, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2025, at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse.

Carol Mae was born on December 22, 1940, the daughter of Gaylord "John" and Ella (Martin) Sperber. On June 27, 1958, she was united in marriage to Benjamin Thur at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fairchild. The couple made their home in Racine and Madison before settling on their hobby farm in the town of Bridge Creek, rural Fairchild in 1969.

Carol was employed for many years in the laundry department of the Augusta Area Nursing Home, where she worked faithfully until her retirement. After the passing of her beloved husband, Ben, on February 4, 2001, Carol remained on the hobby farm she so dearly loved. Surrounded by nature and the peace of the countryside, she found comfort in the solitude and the familiar rhythms of rural life. When her health no longer allowed her to remain on the farm, she relocated to an apartment in Menomonie. It was there that she became ill and was quickly transferred to Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse, where she passed away later that same day.

She is survived by her beloved son, Tim (Joni) Thur of rural Osseo; grandchildren Scarlett and Piper; sisters , Mary Ann (Dave) Kiesow of Fall Creek, Melody Sperber of Augusta; brother, Gary (Marilyn) Sperber of Chippewa Falls; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other dear relatives.

In addition to her husband Ben, Carol was also preceded in death by her parents, John and Ella Sperber; and nephew, Kenneth Kiesow.

Funeral services will be held at Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, with Pastor Jonathan Wessel officiating.

Burial will be in St. John's Hay Creek Cemetery, rural Augusta.

Friends may call Tuesday starting at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
