Carol Ann Vanas, age 81, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. She was born in Muskegon, MI on August 4, 1943 to Joseph & Phyllis (Johnson) Grams and married Gilbert Vanas on November 6, 1965. Carol graduated from Muskegon High School in 1961, went on to Augustana College, Muskegon Community College, and then received her teaching degree from Western Michigan University. Mrs. Vanas worked as an elementary school teacher for Muskegon Public Schools for 30 years mostly at Marquette and Nelson Schools. After retiring she continued to work as a substitute teacher for 12 more years. She was also on the school board of Three Oaks Academy Charter School. Carol was a lifelong member of Samuel Lutheran Church where she served on the council, taught Sunday school, and was in the Bell Choir. She enjoyed doing ceramics, shopping for bargains, Reading, playing cards and board games. But foremost in her life was her family and spending time with her daughter and grandchildren.
SURVIVORS
Husband, Gilbert Vanas; daughter Melissa (Joe) Pfenning; grandchildren, Travis Pfenning, David (Sierra) Pfenning, Joy Pfenning; great-grandchild Ace; sisters Sandra Lager, Nancy Johnson, Kathy (Glenn) Hall; brother Robert (Diana) Grams; many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Saturday, October 5, 2024, 1:00 PM at Samuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Mike Johnson officiating.
