Caroline Mildred Brown Congo, daughter of the late Effie Jane and Benjamin Brown, was born in
Wilmington, Delaware, on February 12, 1935. She passed away on March 8, 2025, at Christiana Care in Wilmington, where she united with her heavenly Father.
Caroline received her early education in the Wilmington Public Schools and graduated from Howard High School as a member of the Class of 1953. After high school, she attended Delaware State University.
Affectionately known as "Mother Congo," Caroline dedicated 30 years of her career as a paraprofessional in the Christiana School District, passionately supporting students with special needs. In addition to her commitment to education, Caroline deeply loved photography and amassed a significant collection of photographs throughout her life.
Caroline met and married the love of her life, the late Billie B. Congo. Together, they had three beautiful daughters: the late Melanie Ann Congo-Driggins, Latania Michelle Congo, and Pamela Denise Congo.
From a young age, Caroline demonstrated a strong dedication to her faith and actively participated in various church activities. She was raised in the A.U.M.P. Conference, where she taught Sunday school and served on the Missionary Board. Additionally, she attended and volunteered alongside her mother at the annual August Quarterly festivities.
In her later years, Caroline joined her daughter Latania at Canaan Baptist Church, where she faithfully served on the Yolanda and Ernest Pernell Senior Ministry and the Mother's Board.
For over 40 years, Caroline was a committed member of the Grand United Order of Tents, Mahaleth Tent #3, in
Wilmington, Delaware. She also dedicated years of service to the Women's Prison Fellowship Ministry.
Caroline leaves to cherish her memories her two daughters, Latania Congo and Pamela Congo-Brady (Craig); her two beloved grandsons, Ryan, and Kyle Congo; her brother, Robert P. Brown; her sister, Eleanor Richards; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will lovingly remember her.
