Caroline L. Duerson,
Brookfield, Wisconsin. - Caroline, age 91, passed away on Wednesday., April 24, 2024, due to breast cancer. Caroline radiated gratitude for a full life with her husband, Bill Duerson, and their family and friends. She shared her gifts generously as an RN and later as a hospital volunteer. Even after retiring she said you never really stop being a nurse. She enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening, playing bridge, golfing, traveling and gathering family for celebrations.
Caroline was born in Aniwa, Wisconsin, on October 9, 1932, to Irma and Arthur Loehrl. She earned her RN degree from the Milwaukee County Nursing College in 1954 with classmates who never lost touch with one another.
Caroline is survived by her daughter, Mary (Rev. David), seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law Shirley, her daughter-in-law Pat (Carl) and nine nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by Bill in 2010, her son, David, daughter Laurel, brothers Leonard and Alfred, sisters-in-law Sharon, Margaret and Elizabeth, and brothers-in-law Jerry and Robert.
The family thanks the exceptional care teams of Shorehaven and ProHealth Hospice for their compassionate and steady presence in Caroline's last few months. One special touch by the CNAs was keeping Caroline's fingernails painted bright pink (Opi's California raspberry). Her friends and family showing up at her memorial with pink nails is the kind of thing that would make Caroline smile.
A memorial service will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 15, at COMMUNITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 14700 Watertown Plank Road, Elm Grove, Wisconsin, with Rev. Bridget Case officiating. Visitation at church from 10:00 AM until the service. Church and Chapel, Brookfield, is helping with arrangements. Burial of ashes will be at Wisconsin Memorial Park at a later date.
In memory of Caroline, consider giving to Habitat for Humanity or a group in your area that helps first-time home buyers.
