Carolyn May Dickinson
May 13, 1930 – April 4, 2024
Carolyn May Dickinson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and all of those she loved, waiting for her in Heaven, early on the morning of April 4th, at her home in Prescott, Arizona. She moved from Apple Valley, California, to Prescott in January 2011 to be near her daughter. She loved her home and enjoyed adorning it inside and out for each and every holiday. Her years in Prescott were some of her happiest.
She was born May 13, 1930, in Corry Memorial Hospital, Corry, Pennsylvania, and lived in Clymer, New York, where she lived until she married in 1949. She learned to play piano at the age of five. She graduated from Clymer Central High School in 1948, where she played piano for many recitals, events and occasions. She met Donald Dickinson roller skating at Findley Lake Roller Skating Rink upstate New York.
Don and Carolyn moved to Canoga Park, California, in 1956, where Don went to work at Rocketdyne in the aerospace industry. Besides being a full-time wife and mother for three children, Carolyn worked outside the home mainly at Malcolm Drug Store, in Canoga Park, CA and Northridge Pharmacy in Northridge, CA, in the late 50's and throughout the 60's, rubbing elbows with many celebrities in the area due to the fact there were no malls at that time. She volunteered as a Scout Mother for her son's Cub Scout troop. In 1964, they lost their 11 year old daughter, Andrea Sue, in a car accident, who played the violin for the Los Angeles Youth Orchestra. They attended church at the Chapel in the Canyon in Chatsworth, CA, where Carolyn played the organ each Sunday for many years, and were friends with Roy and Dale Rogers who was the Choir Director.
In 1969 Don and Carolyn moved to Huntsville, Alabama, for Don's work near the Redstone Arsenal. They became active with the Church of the Nazarene at that time. In 1974, they returned back to Riverside, CA, where Don went to work for the Navy at NARCO. In the mid-90's, Carolyn became active with the Riverside Women's Aglow and was soon elected President of the club. She was considered a "prayer warrior" by many of her friends. Her faith was first and foremost in her life. During the years that Don worked for the Navy, Don and Carolyn became world travelers to London, England, Scotland and elsewhere, and vacationed in Acapulco, Mexico, and the Hawaiian Islands. They had a full life.
Upon Don's retirement in 1998, Don and Carolyn moved to their "dream house" in Apple Valley, CA. In 2011, Carolyn moved to Prescott where she joined and became involved in the prayer ministry at Prescott Community Church. She was a true Republican and enjoyed watching the news and having a good political discussion.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Don, of 50 years, in 1999; her daughter, Andrea Sue, in 1964; her father and mother, Edgar and Lena (Newhouse) TeCulver; her brother, Howard; and twin sisters, Doris (6 years old), and Delio (shortly after birth), and Cuddles, her beloved cat, which she brought with her from California.
She leaves behind her daughter, Brenda Dickinson; her son, Brian Dickinson (Kathleen) and granddaughters, Elizabeth and Christina; two great-grandchildren, a niece and many nephews, her sister-in-law, Sally Siefert, and her sweet kitty, Gracie.
Carolyn will be remembered for her love of the Lord, her beautiful countenance, her joy of giving and living with grace, and her devotion to her family.
Her service will be held Saturday, May 4th, at 11 a.m. at Prescott Community Church, 3151 Willow Creek Road, Prescott, AZ 86301. In lieu of flowers, please donate to: Prescott Pops Symphony with Prescott Youth Orchestra in memo line, P. O. Box 10231, Prescott, AZ 86304.
