Mrs. English left this earth peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, March 20th, 2025, in Temple, Texas.
Carolyn English was born November 8, 1945 in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Raymond Miller and Ada Rhone Miller. Carolyn was raised by her mother and dearly beloved second Dad, Curtis Necessary, and took his last name. While attending college in San Marcos, Carolyn met the love of her life, Ronald Wain English through her cousin, Forrest Mobley, who was Mr. English’s roommate in the Corp of Cadet dorm at Texas A&M University. They married on June 27, 1964 in Houston, Texas, in the summer between Ron’s sophomore and junior year at A&M. Carolyn worked in the Evans Library on the Texas A&M campus, while Ron finished school. After Ron’s graduation in 1966, they began their military career together. While Ron went off to Vietnam, Carolyn moved to Oklahoma to live with Mr. & Mrs. Necessary and nurture their infant son, Steven. Upon “Captain” English’s return from Vietnam, the couple moved back to College Station, where he earned his Master’s Degree from A&M, and their daughter Kathryn Elaine English was born.
Carolyn was a supportive, loving, dedicated and actively involved military wife. The old saying, “behind every good man is a great woman,” applied to their marriage. Mrs. English was President of the Officer’s Wives Club, member of the local Bridge club, and involved in Hail and Farewell events and dinners for incoming and departing Officers. Carolyn was very involved with her children’s schooling and attended many of their functions. She served as a room mom and always had a heart for kids. Mrs. English was quickly adopted by neighborhood or local children as a “second Mom.” She was part of that “it takes a village” to raise kids type person.
Mrs. English worked outside the home at various times along the way. She was a surgical technician before either of their children started school. After the family moved to Killeen in November of 1979, Mrs. English conducted interviews for the US Census Bureau for the 1980 census. She then went to work as the Administrative Secretary to the Chancellor at Central Texas College. She later worked the remainder of her career in Morale Support at Ft. Hood, Texas until she retired.
Carolyn enjoyed sewing, latch hook, and various other crafts, and she loved flowers. Bluebonnets, chrysanthemums, irises, lilies, and roses were among her favorites. Carolyn English was a long-time member of the Killeen Church of Christ (1979-2013). In 2013, she joined the Belton Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ron, in 2018, her mother, her father, and her step-father.
Survivors include one son Steven English and his wife Stephanie; one daughter Kathy Grace; five grandchildren: Chance English, Alexis English McNair, Sean English, Kristin Jeffers, and Kelsie Biehn; along with five great grandchildren.
