Carolyn Jean (Goodwin) Mortenson Fischer, age 84, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2025, in Mukilteo, Washington, after a prolonged battle with melanoma cancer.
She was born in Sloan, Iowa, on March 3, 1941, the youngest of six siblings. Carolyn attended Sloan Elementary and Sloan High School, finishing in 1959. Throughout her life, she worked in many different roles and enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies, but her greatest joy and focus was being a homemaker and mother.
Carolyn married Jerome "Jerry" Fischer on March 5, 2006. Together they shared a home in Mesa, Arizona, before settling in Mukilteo, Washington, where she lived out her final years.
She was previously married to Richard "Dick" Mortenson on June 21, 1958, in Sloan, Iowa. Together, they raised four children, six grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George W. and Dovie J. (Fletcher) Goodwin, and by four siblings: Della (West), Betty (Miller), Gerald "Jerry," and Clayton "Kit" Goodwin.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Jerry Fischer; her children, Cinda (Ron) Kohler, Vicki (Lee) Hall, Gregory "Gregg" Mortenson, and Pamela "Pam" (Jeff) Turk; her six grandchildren, Keesha, Keeley, Korey, Shanlee, Breanna, and Chelsie; her eleven great-grandchildren, Reegan, Keeana, Jereson, McKenzee, Delanee, Cohen, Callie, Casen, Landen, and Keegan; and her sister, Doris (Goodwin) Pile.
A celebration of Carolyn's life will be held on November 1, 2025, in Mukilteo, Washington. Friends and family are encouraged to share memories and photos of Carolyn-either below (text only), on her Facebook page here, or by emailing [email protected].
