Carolyn Jo Mason of Levelland, formerly of Sundown, passed from this life on November 6, 2025. She was 77 years old. She was born May 14, 1948 in Littlefield Texas to R.L. and Thelma Tisdale.
She married Wayne Mason on May 2, 1980 in Sundown Texas, and was married for 45 years. She taught Sunday School and Children's Sermon at First Baptist Church in Sundown for several years. She loved serving and had a true heart for God. She worked for Sundown ISD for over 30 years as the Superintendent secretary and later as the video librarian and was the "band-aid" for the high school marching band. She was as close to being a teacher as she ever wanted to be. The students at Sundown knew where her office was, and knew that it was always open to them to talk. She could recall videos for teachers that needed 12 minutes about frogs and have it going in seconds. She made sure that she knew what ALL the junior high and high school students wanted to read and could pull any book from the AR reading list. She took interest in every single student that she encountered. And she wanted to make sure that every student knew that she thought they were special. She was ready with a kind word and a smile to help their day go easier. She retired from Sundown ISD in May of 2016. She came out of retirement in 2018 to work as a librarian, again, with the Sundown City Library. She worked there through the renovation of the historical church and retired, for the last time, in December of 2024.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband Wayne Mason, her parents R.L. and Thelma Tisdale, and her brother Marvin Tisdale.
She is survived by her children, Jennifer Wilson of Levelland, Shawn(Stacy) Mason of Wolfforth, and Jill Gentry of Keller; grandchildren: Haley(Tyler), Aubrey and Avery Carson of Wolfforth and Richard Hamby of Levelland; siblings: Linvell(Judy) Tisdale of Amarillo, Gwen Slater of Levelland, and Debbie Tisdale of Wolfforth; nephews David and Joshua; nieces Deborah, Tara and Amy and multiple great nieces and nephews.
