Carolyn Dorothy Edwards Minion passed thru the veil to be with her life-long sweetheart on Thursday, the 19th day of May 2022, one week before her 91st birthday.
Carolyn was born on May 27th, 1931, in Shaw Creek, Goulburn, Australia to Percy and Irene Edwards. She and her twin brother, Clarence were born at home. Mom came first, of course! They were the 8th and 9th of 12 siblings.
One of her earliest memories was of a very large Kangaroo coming to their gate to get treats. They named him "Joey".
When momma was just 5 years old, her dad and brothers were pulling down a shed. She was told to stay away from it but mom being mom decided to chase a chicken through the scraps and fell on a nail. It went through her knee. She ended up in the hospital because it got infected. The doctor told her that they were going to have to amputate. She told the doctor that she was going to tell her dad to whip him with his bullwhip if he did! Her dad gave her a blessing to save her leg, and she always knew that her leg was saved by the faith of her parents.
Mom has always been "Sassy". Her kindergarten teacher liked to swat the kids with a cane. So, one day she swatted my mom, so mom grabbed the cane from her and swatted the teacher back, saying "See how that hurts us?!" and then ran home.
She lived on a farm growing up, with only animals and siblings to play with. She had lots and lots of chores as well.
Mom has always been a defender of others. When her younger sister was in kindergarten, mom looked through the glass partition and saw the teacher getting prepared to smack Lucy with the cane. Mom ran and grabbed the cane out of the teacher's hand and broke it over her knee, firmly telling the teacher to "don't do that again!". Mom was always in fist fights, but she was always standing for right and truth. She took her punishments like a "rock star". Usually making the one meeting out the punishment have second thoughts.
Mom was known as "the Baby Whisperer"! There was never a baby that she couldn't soothe, and they all loved her right back. She was always the happiest around kids. Mom had the softest touch, and I loved her work worn hands. Whether she was working, cooking, gardening, or nursing, her hands were never idle.
She grew up in Australia and met my dad while he was serving his mission. Dad said he loved her "on sight". Not only was she pretty he said but she was a hard worker. I used to tease him and tell him "How romantic." When his mission was over, mom got on a boat, all alone, leaving everyone she knew and travelled to Canada to marry her sweetheart. They raised 6 children and moved often. They lived in Canada, Utah, Iowa, So. California, No. California, Kentucky, back to Canada, back to Kentucky, Kansas and spent the last 43 years here in Centerville, Utah.
Throughout her life, mom wore many hats and had a lot of jobs. Mom was famous for her baked goods. Her amazing rolls will never be the same, even if we follow her recipe to the "T". Her "Kamiroos" (Tarts), "Lamingtons" and "Butterfly Cupcakes" are what many think of when they think of mom.
She served in many callings in the church. Anyone who knew mom adored her. Her caregivers and nurses wanted to be adopted by her. She loved being in the sun…the hotter the better! Her yard was her joy. She loved to decorate her home and kept it beautiful. We spent many hours with friends and family playing "musical decorations and furniture".
There are so many stories and memories, and we treasure them all.
Mom is survived by her 6 children: Denise (John) Silvernail, Gerald (Cheri Sharp) Minion, Suzanne (Marven) Cook, Dianne (Steve) Bogden, Dale (Rie) Minion, and Jeanette (Patrick) Christensen. 42 Grandchildren, 119 Great-Grandchildren, and 11 Great-Great-Grandchildren. Her sisters Shirley Clements and Betty LeBaron. Countless nieces and nephews and many family members related both by blood and by heart. She is preceded in death by her sweetheart Douglas Minion, her companion for 69 years. Her parents and 9 of her siblings, including her twin brother Clarence Edwards.
Family and friends are invited to services at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 27th, 2022, at the Rolling Hills LDS Chapel, 210 East 1825 North, Centerville, Utah, where a viewing will be held from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm. The graveside service will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 South 200 West, Bountiful, Utah.
