Carolyn Sue "Susie" Pettit, resident of
Ponca City, OK, went home to be with the Lord Monday, November 17, 2025. She was 78. A Graveside service will be held at Resthaven Memorial Park, located at 1901 E. Hubbard Rd,
Ponca City, OK at 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 22, 2025, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 103 E Grandview Drive, Kaw City, OK, with Pastor Gary Wilburn officiating. Susie was born on May 11, 1947, to the late Herbert and Esther Griffin in Yakima, Washington. She was raised in Ponca City, alongside her brothers, Larry and Steve. Before graduating Ponca City High School in 1965, as a "straight A" student, she won multiple typing awards, and was FFA sweetheart. In high school she dated Ernest "Ernie" Pettit, the love of her life, and they were married on June 1, 1968. They lived NE of Ponca City, enjoying 57 years of a loving and giving marriage. They had one son, Marty Pettit.
Susie was well known for her organizational and clerical skills which she used while working secretarial positions at First Christian Church, Conoco temp, Kildare Elementary School, Modern Supply, and more. Susie received Jesus Christ as her Lord and savior as a young child and grew in her relationship with God all her life. Susie collected butterflies that decorate her entire home as a reminder of new life in Christ Jesus. She has shared God's loved to many people and had a greeting card ministry.
Over the years, Susie and Ernie were members at Longwood Baptist Church, and Second Baptist Church. They have been charter members of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Kaw City, OK for over 45 years where she has served as music leader, preschool Sunday school and VBS teacher, church clerk, hospitality committee, shoe box ministry co-chairman, and more
Susie was famous for her hospitality, hosting many birthday parties and holiday celebrations with fun games and entertainment. Susie was well known for all-star dishes like: Country Fried Steak, Scalloped potatoes, sugar cookies, pumpkin roll, and so many others.
Susie was preceded in death by: her father, Herbert Griffin; mother, Esther Goodson Griffin; twin sister, Wanda Lou Griffin; brother, Steven Ron Griffin; sister-in-law, Linda Griffin; niece Lacey Dawn Griffin Hill; nephew, Larry Ron Griffin; and grandparents, William and Ruby Goodson. Susie is survived by: her husband, Ernie; son, Marty Pettit and daughter-in-law, Kelly Pettit; brother, Larry Griffin and sister-in-law, Diane; sister-in-law, Roleta Noblett; and countless uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces, and many other friends and family.
Honorary Casket Bearers will be: Bill Goodson, Chad Goodson, Andrew Wilburn, Harold Roberts, Joe Sealey, and Mike Hill.
