Mona Elizabeth Pitts (Fronkier), of Ponca City, OK passed quietly on November 16th at Bradbury Commons Nursing home. She was third of four girls born to W. David and Helen Fronkier, on September 15, 1943. A memorial Mass service will be held Tuesday, November 25, 2025, 10am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Ponca City, OK. Burial will immediately follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, 505 W Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK 74601.
Mona was the loving wife of Paul Thomas Pitts of Fairfax, OK with whom she shared 61 years of marriage. They married at St. Mary's Church, on January 24, 1964. She was the beloved "Grancy" to grandsons, Alex and Ryan Pitts. Mona was a proud member of the Osage Nation (name: Kom Pah She, by Geoffrey Standing Bear). She graduated St. Mary's School in 1961, and then attended Oklahoma State University, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta and was a proud supporter of her Alma Mater.
Before and after marriage, Mona worked at Conoco in the Pipeline and Accounting Departments. She and Paul moved to Erie, KS in 1967, when Paul took a job with Standard Oil of Ohio as Manager of their Sohigro Fertilizer and Chemical facility. In 1970, they purchased the Erie Grain elevator. In 1977, they purchased a small trash hauling business, successfully transforming, and expanding it into a large residential and commercial waste sanitation business. By the time they sold to Waste Connections of San Francisco in 2005, they had become the largest hauler across Southeast Kansas, South Central Kansas, and Northern Oklahoma. They retired and moved to Ponca City in 2006.
While in Erie, Mona was active in her community. She was a founding member of the Erie Emergency Care Unit, an all-volunteer ambulance service, serving on the board and planning the monthly scheduling for 20 years. She was Secretary of the Erie Planning Commission, a member of two bridge clubs as well as a couple's bridge club, Monday Study Club, and volunteered where needed. She also served on the Osage Mission - Neosho County Historical Society Board. She enjoyed Primitive Tole painting, working in stained glass, antiquing and mahjong. She attended St. Ambrose Church and was a member of its Altar Society in Erie and attended St. Mary's Church in Ponca City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Donna Harper and brother-in-law Craig Pitts, M.D. She is survived by her husband, Paul; her sons Josh (wife Lindsey) of Richardson, TX, and Jeff of Stillwater, OK. Grandsons Alex and Ryan and their mother, Melissa; sisters Judy Greer (husband Owen), and Jensi Gann; sister-in-law Delores Pitts; as well as several nieces and nephews and other relatives.

To all the Pitts family, my deepest sympathy on your loss. Mona will always be remembered by me as a very special person. She was always fun and made me feel welcome in the family no matter what. She was the best person to shop with, always straight forward on advice and always said what she thought whether you wanted to hear it or not. She will be dearly missed but always remembered and loved! May she rest in peace in gods hands
