Carolyn Szelest Obituary

Szelest, Carolyn (nee Farmer)

July 29, 1941 - January 11, 2024

Carolyn left this world peacefully on Friday, January 11, 2024 following a life well lived. After losing the love of her life, the late Stan Szelest, Carolyn remained devoted to loving and nurturing her children Teressa (David) Shah, Cynthia (Sam) Gardo, Paul (Pamela) Szelest, and Melissa (Matthew) Conroy. Carolyn was an extremely proud "Nonny" to her beautiful grandchildren; Jasmin Shah, Alexandra Shah, Nicholas Gardo, Rachael (Michael) Peltier (nee Szelest), Mark Conroy, and rockstar great-grandson Parker Peltier. Born to the late James and Frances (Carmody) Farmer on July 29, 1941, Carolyn resided in Woodlawn, New York her entire life - her children fondly referring to her as "The Mayor." Carolyn was affectionately called "Sis" by her late brothers John (Jack) Farmer and James Farmer and "Aunt" by both nieces and nephews - whether real or honorary. Carolyn's capacity for caring and loving was limitless. Those fortunate enough to have been the focus of her devotion can take comfort in the fact that it was real, it was unconditional, and it is enduring. Whether caring for immediate family, a wide range of cousins, lifelong friends, fellow parishioners or mere acquaintances, Carolyn loved hard. Much of her volunteer and work life was spent hoping to improve someone's day and to "Leave Peace Prints" on this earth. Flowers graciously accepted as are any monetary gifts that may be made to improve a community or school music program of your choice. Friends and relatives are invited to join the family to joyfully celebrate Carolyn's life and legacy Tuesday from 3-7 pm at the (Hamburg Chapel) JOHN J. KACZOR FUNERAL HOME, INC. 5453 Southwestern Blvd. (corner of Rogers Rd. 716-646-5555) where prayers will be said Wednesday at 9:15 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Queen of Angels Church at 10:00 am. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. Share condolences at www.kaczorfunerals.com

Terry, Cindy, Paul, and Melissa, I am so sorry to hear of Carolyn's passing she was always such a sweet person to everyone of us that lived in Woodlawn. It is good to know that she went peacefully and that she is with our lord in heaven and with the love of her life. She was there for me and my family when mom dad and gram passed and for that I am truly thankful.
Prayers to you all and God Bless

Terry, Cindy, Paul, and Melissa, so sorry for your loss. when I heard the news I could only think of her smile and kindness. "Mrs Szelest" was one of our neighborhood Moms as we we growing up as kids in Woodlawn. Every time I seen here on my visits back home, she always greeted me with warmth and genuine love. Woodlawn will never be the same but her legacy lives on.

What a lovely woman your mother was. I'm sorry your family has lost its matriarch, but what a kind legacy she leaves behind. My deepest condolences to your family.
