Carolynn Gray McGahey, a talented artist and devoted Mother and Grandmother, passed away peacefully after a courageous seven-year battle with cancer. Born in Golden Valley, Minnesota, Carolynn lived a life filled with creativity, love, and adventure.
Carolynn shared a remarkable journey with her husband, as they built their life together across Minnesota, Southwest Florida, and Northern Colorado. She was the proud mother of one loving son and cherished her daughter-in-law, who held her in deep affection. Carolynn also found immense joy in her role as a grandmother to two cherished grandchildren.
A true artist at heart, Carolynn was an accomplished painter, weaver, and photographer. Her talents left an indelible mark on those who knew her work. Carolynn's creativity was recently celebrated with the inclusion of one of her hand-painted masks in an exhibit at the Museum of Art Fort Collins. Beyond her art, Carolynn had a passion for travel and found inspiration in exploring the world around her.
In her final years, Carolynn retired to Northern Colorado to focus on her health while continuing to embrace life with grace and determination. One of her most treasured places was her cabin in Dolores, Colorado-a sanctuary of peace where she felt truly at home. Fittingly, this will also be the place where her ashes are laid to rest.
Carolynn is remembered by her three remaining brothers; two more preceded her in death. She is also survived by her mother, who loves her dearly. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Carolynn was blessed with close friends who were more like family to her. Their bonds ran deep, and their love for her will endure as they carry forward the memories of her warmth and kindness.
Please help us celebrate Carolynn's memory by directing any gifts to Pathways Hospice of Northern Colorado, in gratitude for the compassionate care they provided her; or to the Museum of Art Fort Collins, where her last work of art is currently on display. A small gathering will be planned for Spring 2025 in Dolores, to precede the spreading of her ashes.
May Carolynn's legacy of artistry and resilience bring comfort to those she leaves behind.
