Carrie Paulette Hopkins, affectionately known as Mama, Maw, Granny, and GrannyMaw, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026, at Pardee Hospital. Born on March 21, 1944, in South Carolina, she graced this world with her presence for 81 years.
A devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and even great-great-grandmother, Carrie embodied the essence of family. She cherished Sunday suppers and family gatherings, where her warm spirit and caring nature were a constant reassurance to those around her. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she found joy in attending worship services and singing in the choir at Upward Bible Baptist Church, where she formed lasting bonds with her extended church family.
Carrie's love for the outdoors and her garden was evident to all who knew her. When weather permitted, she could often be found tending to her yard and flowers, finding peace and fulfillment in nature's beauty.
Carrie dedicated many years of service as a cook before her retirement, nurturing others not only with her culinary skills but also with her compassionate heart.
As her children would say "she was a wonderful mom to us all and grandmother. Her favorite was her mountain dew where she had tried every new flavor. Her favorite food was salads and her favorite store was the Wal-Mart where she always wanted to go. She enjoyed her church family and was there every chance she could be. She knew everyone just as well as she knew her close family. Mama loved everyone. Mama is leaving behind her best friend of 30 plus years Mayoma Carroll. They shared the same birth month and would often spend time together. Mama liked to lay at night and watch the stars and moon and always wanted to keep her curtains open. She loved butterflies and flowers as well as being outdoors working in her garden. She loved her grandbabies and especially the hugs and kisses from them. She loved her Sunday dinners and her bear patches."
She is preceded in death by all of her siblings, her son-in-law Gary Allen Moore Sr., her granddaughter Heather Elaine Wines, her great-grandson Ethan Dean McMahan, her ex-son-in-law Ricky Lee Wines, and her beloved parents Annie Mae Timms and Oscar Franklin Fowler.
Carrie's legacy lives on through her surviving family: her daughters Patricia Ann Rhodes of Flat Rock, North Carolina, and Pamela Sue Webb and her husband Charles Richard Webb of Edneyville, North Carolina; her sons Bobby Eugene Hopkins Jr. and his ex-wife Kimberly Hopkins-Hensley of
Hendersonville, North Carolina, and Joshua Alan Hopkins of Flat Rock, North Carolina. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren Gary, Roger, Matthew, Timothy, Carrie, Ricky Jr., Bobby III, Hannah, Christopher,Rachel, Mickey and Isaiah; her treasured great-grandchildren Julie, Emily, Little Gary, Steven, Travis, Gavin, Taylor, Natalie, Marco, Abbie, Noah, Hailey, Jordan, Cayson, Joseph, Marilyn, and Victoria; and her dear great-great-grandchildren Olivia, Miguel, Belamy, and Meredith.
