On August 25, 2025, the world mourned the passing of Carrie Jean Nugent, a remarkable woman whose life was a tapestry woven from love, compassion, and an indomitable spirit. Born on June 18, 1961, in Kountze, Texas, Carrie embodied the essence of a true country bumpkin—outgoing and friendly, with a heart that knew no bounds. She was not just a loving mom; she was a nurturing soul, a devoted nana, and an ever-giving friend to those fortunate enough to have crossed her path.
Carrie's dedication to her work as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) blossomed over an impressive twenty-year tenure in hospice care, including ten years at St. Elizabeth. Her tireless commitment to comforting the sick and fostering dignity in life's final moments made her a beacon of hope and strength in the darkest times. Those in her care could feel the warmth of her nurturing spirit, the palpable love behind every gentle touch, and the reassurance in her compassionate gaze.
Her home was a sanctuary filled with laughter, as Carrie loved her grandchildren fiercely. They were the glittering jewels of her life, each moment with them cherished and celebrated. A proud grandmother, Carrie understood the invaluable connection between generations, often imparting wisdom, and love through the simplest acts—sharing stories, crafting creations, or cooking meals that enveloped her family in warmth. As a remarkable cook, she was known for her ability to feed you no matter the hour; her salmon patties remained a treasured favorite for her son-in-law, a testament to her caring nature and culinary skills.
Carrie's love did not end with her family, for her heart extended to all—children and the elderly alike drew her in with their stories and experiences. She was, indeed, a natural nurturer, a crafty woman who infused joy into every creation, and a lover of old country music and gospel tunes that filled her home with memories of days gone by. Her adoration of animals, especially her beloved dogs, spoke to her gentle soul, revealing yet another layer of her compassionate character.
Carrie is survived by her husband, Albert Charles Nugent; her sons, Dustin, and Jerod Nugent; her daughter, Brandy Sellers and husband, Blake: her sister, Stacy Hart; her cherished grandchildren Brennan Sellers, Baylin Sellers, Brantley Sellers, and Skylar Stuard. She is also survived by her nephew, Aaron Hart, numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family who carry her legacy of love and kindness in their hearts.
Carrie is preceded in death by her parents, Dorman Randolph, and Julia Ann Griffin, who now greet her in eternal peace, their spirits forever joined in the embrace of family.
A special thanks is extended to Harbor Hospice, who provided Carrie with the care and comfort she deserved in her final days. In the hearts she touched, Carrie Jean Nugent’s legacy will remain, a living testament to a life driven by love and an unyielding spirit.
Friends and family are invited to honor Carrie's memory during a visitation on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Honey Island Assembly of God in Kountze, Texas. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Earl Crawford. Interment to follow at Sutton Cemetery.
