Carrie Waters Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Pryority Funeral Experience, LLC on Mar. 5, 2026.
Our hearts are full of love and gratitude as we celebrate the life and legacy of Carrie Mae Waters, a beloved

mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and cousin. Carrie was born on December 25, 1928, to

the union of Myrtle and Broachie Grover Carter in Ore City, Texas.

Due to her unwavering relationship with God, we know with blessed assurance that she now dwells among

that "great cloud of witnesses" (Hebrews 12:1) and she is absent from the body, and present with the Lord."

(2 Corinthians 5: 6,8).

Carrie attended school in Ore City and Gilmer ISD. She was an inquisitive student and enjoyed many

activities in the school setting.

As we reflect on her 97-year journey in this earthly life, we were awestruck by her beautiful reflection of faith

in God. Her dedication to the church was steadfast and inspiring to her siblings and immediate family. Carrie

accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and attended church in Ore City, Texas, Jones Town, and

Friendship Baptist Church, Gilmer, Texas. Carrie served as a Sunday School teacher for youth for many years

at Friendship Baptist Church and as a deaconess, while her husband, Walter Waters, served as Sunday School

Superintendent and deacon at Friendship Baptist Church. She was very active in other activities at church as

well, including the Baptist Training Union (BTU) and Vacation Bible School (VBS) in the summer seasons.

Furthermore, in addition to her service, Carrie loved to wear her hats and suits as an expression of honor to

God in church.

Carrie joined in holy matrimony with Walter Waters (aka Big Daddy) in July 1945. As a gift to this union, she

had three beautiful children: Mae Waters, Billy Waters, and Willie Waters. She was faithfully committed to her

marriage and showed her family what true love was. One demonstration of love was her big heart for giving

her financial blessings to the church, family, and anyone who needed assistance. In 1995, she celebrated 50

years of marriage with Walter with family and friends. Carrie and Walter were blessed with a total of 66 years

of marital bliss together before Walter died in 2011.

Carrie was blessed to see and hold each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in her arms before her

departure. She displayed a genuine smile and showered her wisdom and love on them when they were with

her.

Carrie Mae (Carter) Waters departed this life on February 25, 2026.
