Carroll Edwin Nelson, 88, of Windsor Colorado died peacefully among family on January 7, 2025.
Born June 30, 1936 in Earlville Illinois, he graduated from Earlville High School in 1954 and joined the United States Marine Corps. During his enlistment he was assigned to Camp Pendleton, Camp Lejeune and in Korea at the end of the Korean War. He moved to Aurora Colorado after his honorable discharge where in 1963 he married Jeanne Ann Gall. Together they raised two daughters in Aurora and Loveland Colorado and divorced after 36 years of marriage. He was later reunited with his high school sweetheart Martha Ann Larabee and in 2000 they moved to Windsor Colorado where they married and lived their remaining years.
Carroll worked for the United States Postal Service for 30 years. He began his career as a mailman carrier in Denver at the Holly and Wilshire Post Offices and retired as Superintendent of the Loveland Post Office. Carroll had many hobbies from golfing, fishing, playing baseball, snowmobiling and spending time with his family and friends. When he moved to Windsor, he joined the Pelican Lakes Golf Club where he was an original member of the Pelican Lakes Senior Golf League. He simply enjoyed golfing and drinking a beer with the many friends he had made along his life’s journey.
Carroll was the father of two daughters, Sandra (Andrew) Case and Cindy (Keith) McQueen, and a stepdaughter, Diana Grosz, and Grandfather to several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by four brothers, Fritz (Norma) Nelson, William (Marylou) Nelson, Stanley (Peggy) Nelson and Roger Nelson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Ann Nelson, parents, Andrew and Bodil Nelson, brother, Henning Lundgren and sisters, Ruth Locke and Betty Twait and sister-in-law, Marlene Nelson.
A Celebration of Life for Carroll will be held at Mark’s Funeral Home at 9293 Eastman Park Drive, Windsor, Colorado on Wednesday January 15th at 11 a.m. followed by cookies and coffee.
Interment and military honors will be at the Earlville Precinct Cemetery in Earlville, Illinois on June 10, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Weld Food Bank (1108 H Street Greeley, CO 80631) in Carroll’s honor. For more information go to www.EighnerFuneralHomes.com
