Casey Sluys Obituary

Casey Sluys was born on October 7, 1943, in Heerhugowaard, Netherlands and immigrated to the United States, with his family, when he was 8 years old. The family moved to Modesto, CA where Casey graduated from Thomas Downey High School. Once graduated, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served 4 years as a machinist on the USS Guam. Casey met his wife Gail K. Jackson of Pompton Lakes, New Jersey while serving in the Navy. They were married in New Jersey on June 15, 1968, and moved to San Jose, CA where they had two daughters, Kathryn Sluys and Kimberlee Marlan (Sluys). As a family, they moved to Santa Rosa, CA in 1982. Casey had a fulfilling career with Hewlett Packard and Agilent where he worked as a machinist and retired after a little over 30 years. He was an active member, participant and board member of the Sonoma County Horseshoe Pitching Club, Northern California Horseshoe Pitchers Association (NCHPA), National Horseshoe Pitchers Association (NHPA), National Horseshoe Pitchers Foundation (NHPF) and was inducted into the NHPA Hall of Fame in 1999.

Casey passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on November 23, 2025, after a hard-fought battle with pneumonia.

He is survived by his loving wife Gail Sluys, his children Kathryn Sluys, Kimberlee Marlan (Sluys), and niece Teresa Hamilton, grandchildren Daniel Wharton, Travis Sluys, Tyler Hamilton, Andrew Marlan, Abby Marlan and Keely Hamilton, siblings Femi Pascoe (Sluys), John Sluys, Betty Mantione (Sluys) and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

At the request of Casey, there will be no funeral services. The family will plan a celebration of life at a later date.

Casey was an honorable family man who set countless examples how to care for the ones you love. It was a privilege to have known him. He will be deeply missed by all who did. I am personally grateful to have been around him most of my life. I will always consider him a role model. He will forever live on in my heart and memories.
God bless you Uncle Casey and Aunt Gail. We love you.
