Casmir Koronkiewicz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Boyd-Horrox-Givnish Funeral Home on Jun. 3, 2023.
Casmir John Koronkiewicz, born August 29, 1955, in Philadelphia, Pa., passed away on May 31, 2023, at 4:49 in the morning. He is predeceased by his parents, Mitchell Koronkiewicz and Catherine Koronkiewicz (Sullivan). He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Joan Koronkiewicz (Henry). His four children are Krista Koronkiewicz, Daniel Koronkiewicz, Matthew Koronkiewicz, and Regina Koronkiewicz (fiancé Angela Radesky). He had two beautiful grandsons through his son Daniel, Daniel and Micah Koronkiewicz, ages 16 and 5 years old. He is also survived by his four siblings: Catherine Whitehead (husband William), Anne Derr (husband Andrew), Mary Theresa Koronkiewicz (fiance Michael), and Michael Joseph Koronkiewicz (wife Jill). And many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Cas was born and raised in Southwest Philadelphia, on 60th and Reinhard Streets. He lost his father at the age of 12 and helped raise his younger siblings. Even though losing his dad at such a young age had a huge impact on his life, he never let that deter him from becoming an amazing man. He had so many fond memories of growing up on that street, from playing half-ball to hanging with all the neighborhood kids. He loved having his grandparents on the same street. He would stop there every night before heading home to say goodnight. He was a parishioner of Good Shepherd Parish. He would later attend John Bartram High School before leaving in the 9th grade to start working full time with his uncle Connie at United Tool. After working at United Tool, he started working at Septa in 1979 as a trackman for Local 234. He worked for Septa for 31 years until he retired in 2010. He made many lifelong friends at Septa. He cherished all their friendships immensely.
When he was 21, he met his wife, Joan, through his sister, Cassie. She asked him to her senior prom even though she was nervous because he was quiet and didn't talk much when she was over at his house. They started dating after that night, and three months later, he proposed to her on her 18th birthday. That's where their beautiful story began. They were married on October 7, 1978, at Most Blessed Sacrament Church. He would always say, "I knew she was the one on our first date, and she made me a better man." She was the love of his life. He would say, "She is my world; I don't know what I would do without her." They loved each other unconditionally through all the good and bad times, never once giving up on one another. The true definition of soulmates that one-of-a kind love that was written in the stars. Their love went on to create four kids together that he got to watch grow into adults. That was one of his proudest accomplishments. Being a dad was what he was so proud of; he gave everything to his kids. Even if that meant he went without. Then his two grandsons came along, and that's when he really became the best version of himself. Seeing the world through their eyes and getting to experience a new love he didn't know existed. He was Pop. Their hero. Family was the most important thing in his life. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his family.
Cas was an avid Philadelphia sports team fan. Mostly the Philadelphia Eagles and the Philadelphia Phillies. When the Eagles won the Super Bowl, he said, "I never thought I would live to see them win one." He loved sitting out front in his rocking chair, talking to the neighbors as they passed by, or just sitting out there relaxing and taking in the sights. He would listen to his oldies and sing along, most of the time messing up the words, but he would just belt them out. He says he didn't believe in ghosts, but he watched all these paranormal shows for hours; they were his favorites. He was a simple man; he never wanted or needed much. He hated when you made a fuss over him saying, "Why are you wasting your money on me?" But to his family, we would have given him the world if we could for all the sacrifices he made to give us the best life anyone could imagine.
He may not be here with us now, but he will never be forgotten. We will carry all our memories of him with us in our hearts and bring him with us in all the new memories we create. His love for each of us will follow us forever, and our love for him will continue to grow with each passing day. He left an incredible mark on our lives. I hope that when you think of him, it brings a smile to your face and that you know that he cherished all the moments he spent with each and every one of you. He was truly an amazing man who had the biggest heart. He was one of a kind. We will look for you among the stars and know that you're up there looking down on us. Our Guardian Angel. We love you so much now and forever. We will carry your heart in our hearts. As he used to say "I'll be here!"
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made in his honor to the National Kidney Association or the American Liver Foundation.
