Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, Cassie Wood, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023, after a courageous fight against cancer.
Cassie was born May 11, 1952, to Denzil and Dorothy Baird in
Idaho Falls, Idaho. Her family moved to Utah and she was raised in Brigham City. Cassie was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and as a teenager she enjoyed square dancing with her mutual group in Salt Lake City.
She attended Box Elder High School and graduated in 1970. Later that same year, she married J Michael Parsons and together they had one son, Shaune Parsons. She and Mike later divorced and in 1988 she married her best friend and the love of her life, Bruce E Wood. This marriage brought three more children to the family, Kimberlee, Kristalee, and Kellan Wood, whom she raised and loved as her own.
Cassie worked at Fram in Brigham City and Clearfield for over 23 years, where she made many lifelong friends.
Cassie had many hobbies and was an exceptional gardener. She could pick up seeds that she found on plants in the many places she traveled and take them home and get them to grow. She loved swimming and won several medals when she was on the city swim team as a teenager. Cassie loved to bake for her family and friends and was well known for her Christmas candies, especially her nut balls. She was an avid collector of Coca-Cola collectibles, penguins, and antiques. Cassie loved having these on display in her home throughout the year, but especially at Christmastime and she always had a beautiful Coke-themed tree. Cassie loved to sew and make things for her family, including table runners, aprons, quilts, and Santa ornaments to name a few. She loved to travel and in July of 2022, she was able to check off one of her bucket-list items when she and Bruce toured the British Isles.
Two of Cassie's true loves were classic cars and car shows. Through these she met so many incredible people and lifelong friends. She was a member of the Bonnevills Rod & Custom Car Club for over 30 years. Cassie was the first female president of the car club and was chairperson of the Peach Days Car Show for four years (and pretty much in charge for another four years). During her first term as chairperson, she was battling breast cancer which made it even more challenging.
Cassie was preceded in death by her father, Denzil Baird; niece, Candace Clark Mosser; and parents-in-law, Lorraine and Shelby Whiting.
Cassie is survived by her mother, Dorothy Atkinson Baird; loving husband, Bruce; children: Shaune (Jill) Parsons, Kim (Bruce) McNeely, Krista Wood, and Kellan Wood; and four grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Susan (Ken) Sutton and Debbie (Mark) Heaton; brother, Scott Baird (Ed Quinlan); and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom she loved as her own.
A special thanks to Applegate Home Care & Hospice - Annette, Carissa, Brooke, Makenzie and all the others - for the amazing care and love they showed Cassie over the past six months. Cassie and her family would also like to thank our wonderful neighbor Curtis Pittman for everything - you truly are an angel on earth, and we could not have taken care of Cassie without you.
We invite anyone with a classic car to drive it to the services.
