Beloved mother, wife, and grandmother Catalina "Katy" Smith aged 88 left to be with our Lord Sunday, October 27, 2024. She was born February 19, 1936, in Somerville, Texas to parents Juan and Concepcion Bonilla. She lived a faithful life devoted to our Lord and her family. Catalina was a steward and faithful member of Cristo Rey Church. Her interests and activities included attending the Senior Citizen Program at Cristo Rey Church and Elizabeth's Place Adult Care and Wellness Center. Catalina was a kind, loving, thoughtful, compassionate, and generous person to all who knew her. She loved her pets, enjoyed gardening, and spending time with family.
She loved her family and will be dearly missed but remains in our hearts to be cherished forever. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Larry Smith; three children, daughter, Lucy Benitez; sons Higinio Rivera, and Carlos Vasquez; two brothers, Miguel Bonilla, Daniel Bonilla; four sisters, Delfina Wallace, Felipa Castillo, Ruth Bonilla, Angela Perez; eight grandchildren, Anbrocio, Anita, Adam, Adela, Eugene, Jinine, Jessica, and Alexis; eighteen great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews as well as many extended family. She was preceded in death by her dear parents Juan and Concepcion Bonilla; four brothers, Emanuel Bonilla, Luis Bonilla, Gabriel Bonilla, Juan Bonilla Jr, two sisters, Benita Archer, Felicita "Phyllis" Bonilla, and son-in-law Charlie "Carlos" Benitez.
A funeral mass will be held Monday November 4, 2024, at 11:00am at Cristo Rey Church 201 W. Miller Rd. Lansing MI with a last viewing from 10:00am – 11:00am. Visitation will be Sunday November 3, 2024, at Palmer Bush Jensen Funeral Home 520 E. Mt. Hope Avenue, Lansing MI at 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm with and Rosary of prayer at 7:00pm. Final resting place will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at 2520 W. Willow St. Lansing MI.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lansing and Stoneleigh Residence, or The Arthritis Foundation Michigan in memory of Catalina "Katy" Smith. Condolences may be left for the family online at www.palmerbush.com. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to all of you for your prayers, presence, love and all other expressions of concern that have been shown during this difficult time. Special thanks to the staff of Hospice of Lansing and Stoneleigh Residence and Tri-Conty Office of Aging.
