Catherine Marie Delorey-Connell, age 69, of Weymouth passed away at home with her husband by her side on Monday, September 22, 2025. Cathy was born and raised in Weymouth where she graduated High School in 1974. After primary education, Cathy attended the University of Massachusetts - Amherst where she received a Bachelor's degree in Geology followed by North Carolina State where she received a degree in Geophysics.
Being a specialist in Paleomagnetism, Cathy worked with the United States Geological Survey as a Chief Scientist for many years. She also worked in Equestrian facilities which fed her love for horseback riding and gave her opportunities to compete with horses she cared for.
Cathy married her husband, Jim, in 1994. They lived in Princeton, NJ and Germany through 1998 and then settled in Weymouth where they stayed since 1999.
Cathy was born to the late William H. and Doris F Delorey (Rezendes). She is the loving wife of James F. Connell of Weymouth, sister of Patricia Delorey-Ball and her husband John of VA, Mark Delorey and his wife Dorie of FL, and the late William Delorey, and Mary McCauley. Cathy is also the cherished aunt of several nieces and nephews, and lifelong friend Kerry Valicenti of Hull.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the Funeral Mass for Cathy on Friday, September 26, 2025 at 1pm in the Immaculate Conception Church located on Broad Street in E. Weymouth. Burial will immediately follow in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery also in E. Weymouth.
In lieu of flowers, Cathy's family would prefer donation to St. Jude’s's Children's Hospital at www.StJude.org.
