Catherine (Cathy) Fixen, rural Wahpeton, North Dakota, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024, at the age of 76 in the wonderful care of Twin Town Villa Memory Care and CHI Hospice.
Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m., followed by her 11 a.m. funeral service, on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Galchutt Lutheran Church, in Galchutt, North Dakota, where Cathy was a member for 44 years. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Pastor Janelle Hansen will officiate the service. Lunch will be served at Galchutt Lutheran Church following the burial.
Catherine Elaine Hove was born Dec. 12, 1947, to Robert and Marlys (Jones) Hove. Growing up on her parents' farm near Christine, North Dakota, she attended school in Christine and Abercrombie, North Dakota, graduating from Eagle High School in 1965. Cathy also graduated from Moorhead State University, Moorhead, Minnesota, with a degree in Education in 1969.
Cathy married Donald Hoel in 1969, eventually making their home in rural Wahpeton, where they raised their children, Jennifer and Ellen. Cathy worked at Norwest and Wells Fargo Bank in Wahpeton for many years, where she enjoyed her co-workers and customers immensely.
Cathy was united in marriage to Scott Fixen on Feb. 13, 1993, and they made their life supporting the Fixen Farms in rural Galchutt, North Dakota. Their mutual love for family, friends, farming, travel, fishing, listening to gospel music, and football made life grand.
When she was younger, Cathy enjoyed growing up on her parents' farm, spending time at her grandparents' lake cottage, and was a loving big sister to her three younger brothers. Raising her children in a small farming community brought great joy to Cathy's life. She particularly enjoyed traveling with Scott and great friends, golfing, relaxing, and getting into whatever shenanigans they could.
Cathy's favorite activity was supporting local sports teams from Richland High School and North Dakota State University, especially NDSU Bison football. She was also a new St. John's University Johnnie football fan, supporting her grandson, Blake.
Cathy was an amazing daughter, sister, wife, mom, grandmother, and friend to many, and she will be sorely missed.
Cathy is survived by her husband, Scott; children, Jennifer (Thaddeus) Jameson, and Ellen Simonson; grandsons, TJ Jameson, and Blake Simonson; brothers, David (Linda) Hove, Thomas Hove, and James Hove; brother-in-law, Steven (Shelly) Fixen; sisters-in-law, Ruth (Marcus) Roman, Lisa (Bryan) Schulz, Mary Ann (Michael) Allen, and Sara (Brice) Bellmore; and many nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert (Bob) and Marlys Hove; in-laws, Lloyd and Arlis Fixen; and husband, Donald Hoel.
