Together they raised their children, Bernard (Susan), Margaret Glenn (Thomas), Catherine McCarthy (James), Terrance (Vilma), James (Cheryl), late Marian Ward (James), Thomas, Martin (Cheryl), Jane, and Virginia Franceschina (Danny) in the Scottsdale neighborhood on Chicago's southwest side. Kay was a proud Mother of 10 children, 24 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren, and aunt to 22 nephews and nieces.

Kay loved children and after retiring she provided childcare to assist other young families.

Later in life she became a founding member at St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Orland Park. She was an active member in several church ministries including Eucharistic minister of communion, sacristan, vestment care ministry and counting the Sunday collections.
