HALL---Our mother, Catherine L. Hall, 95, passed away on January 13, 2026.
She was a homemaker/mother of three, who was always caring for her family. Later, she worked at Cecil Field Naval Base in the Navy exchange, then as a bookkeeper at the EM club. She went on to work at Atlantic Bank/First Union bank in the safe deposit section where she enjoyed helping customers. Mom retired from the bank and with her husband, Bob Hall, took a cross-country trip to visit all their relatives and see some sites at the national parks along the way, before returning home to provide after school care for her three young grandchildren. There was not much she loved more than her precious grandchildren. Her much loved mother and Aunt Thelma were caregivers their whole lives and I believe they passed that onto our mom, as she enjoyed caring for others. Whether it was making our clothes when we were young, cooking dinner for us and our kids, her and Papa helping the grandkids with their homework, or pitching in when there was house painting to be done. You name it, she wanted to help make our lives easier. Mom would still volunteer to help even when she needed a walker to get around.
Mom was an active member of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, downtown, for many years. She always looked forward to Sundays when her and her husband would go to church. After his passing her daughter, Dorinda, would take her to attend Sunday school and church to see her friends and hear God's word. Mom truly loved all the young preachers at First Baptist, and when she could no longer attend, due to her health issues, she watched the service.
Mom had a number of hobbies over the years. She knitted, crocheted, did needle work, made crafts that were sold at a number of craft shows. Mom was a wonderful seamstress and later got into quilting and became very skilled, cranking out quilt after gorgeous quilt. She loved gifting her quilts to family and friends. When full-size quilts became too much for her to handle, she made lap quilts, then beautiful table runners. She loved to keep busy even as her body failed her. She also loved her grandson, Bryce, talking basketball with her. Our mother loved sports. I think she got that from being married to her husband for so many years. They would watch baseball, football, basketball and golf. All the way to the end she wanted to watch sports on TV.
She leaves loved ones behind to remember her: daughters-Dorinda and Janis; grandchildren-Brian Pace (Lynn), Catherine Reynolds (Jeff), Christy Lynn, Chuck Roth; great grandchildren-Bryce, Annelise, Elías, Dustin (Mary), Devin, and Danyelle; great, great grandchildren-Leo, and Odin; nieces-Dawn (John) Pett and Gale Rogers; nephew-Dean Borre; her beloved sister-in-law-Shirley Pace; stepchildren-Kevin (who called faithfully to check on his father and our mother, and then our mother after Bob's passing), Arleigh, Gina Hall, and their spouses and children.
Our mom lived a very long and difficult at times, life, but she was always happy to be taking care of others and it was hard for her to have to be taken care of towards the end. She is now at peace.
We would especially like to thank Mary Mednick from Vitas Hospice and would also like to thank Maricar Reyes at the nursing home for being so kind and caring for our mother in the months she was there. We would like to thank Allison Maertz from the nursing home, for going above and beyond any time we had to call with a request for our mother.
Funeral services in celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday January 20, 2026 in the chapel of Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 111 Blanding Blvd.,
Orange Park, FL with Pastor Austin Collins officiating. She will be laid to rest with her loving husband Bob Hall at Jacksonville National Cemetery on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 11 AM. There will be no service or graveside ceremony at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers you may donate to your local Hospice in her name or animal shelter.
