Catherine Louise Katrovitz passed away in Vero Beach on March 19th, at the age of 82. Born in Charlestown, Indiana to Roy and Dorothy Hobson, Cathy's childhood was enriched by her adventures on her grandparents' farm, where her love of animals and country living was born.
As a young woman in the 1960's, Cathy lived in Louisville, Kentucky, where she found her independence and learned administrative skills, working in the sales division at a local radio station.
Cathy eventually made her way to Vero Beach, where she met and married the love of her life, Phil Katrovitz, in 1994. They enjoyed many years together, sharing a passion for exploring new places, creating many cherished memories in their travels. They built a successful landscaping business that thrived largely because of the incredible teamwork they were able to develop together. Cathy and Phil found a spiritual home with the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Vero Beach, where they became active and cherished members. Life was good until it wasn't – Cathy's world was rocked when she lost her Phil in 2019.
Cathy found great joy in writing, and became a talented poet – penning many verses, as well as essays and short stories, and sharing them all with friends. She also loved music loved listening to music and singing. She was a member of the church choir for many years. She volunteered on the church's Administration Committee and served as the church librarian, sharing her passion for books and learning. An avid reader, Cathy was captivated by the works of authors like Craig Johnson, Carl Hiaasen, and Janet Evanovich. Cathy loved dining out-CJ Cannon's being a favorite spot-and was an enthusiastic supporter of the arts, dedicating many years as a member of the Vero Beach Theater Guild.
Cathy had a gift for bringing joy to others, often expressed through her tradition of baking peanut butter cookies. Every week, she delighted friends with the delivery of her homemade treats. Her cookies were more than just a sweet indulgence-they were an expression of her kindness and a reminder of her caring spirit.
Cathy loved to keep in touch with her friends near and far via Facebook. Nary a post was ever displayed without a comment from Cathy Katrovitz.
Those who knew Cathy will remember her warm smile, her heartfelt stories of her Indiana childhood, and her mischievous sense of humor.
Cathy was predeceased by her parents Roy and Dorothy Hobson, brother James Hobson, and husband Phil.
A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Vero Beach on April 6th at Noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County. 6230 77th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32967 (772) 388-3331.
