Obituary published on Legacy.com by Paul Ippolito Berkeley Memorial on Mar. 31, 2026.
Catherine M. Keenan (née Wienberg) passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at the age of 92.

Born on June 8, 1933, in Brooklyn, New York, Catherine was raised in Brooklyn and graduated from All Saints High School. She later lived in Glendale, New York, before moving to Scotch Plains and, more recently, Watchung, New Jersey.

Catherine dedicated many years of her career to the insurance industry and later worked as a clerk typist at the 104th Precinct of the NYPD until her retirement. She was known for her strong work ethic and commitment.

She found joy in life's simple pleasures, especially playing cards; poker being her favorite, and indulging in Chinese cuisine, particularly shrimp in lobster sauce. Catherine had a deep love for animals and cherished her dogs, Rusty, who predeceased her, and her beloved Kelly. Above all, she treasured time spent with her family, who meant everything to her.

Catherine was predeceased by her husband, Edward T. Keenan, and her siblings, Helen Wienberg and Margaret "Pinky" Breitenbrook.

She is survived by her loving children, Edward M. Keenan and his wife Mary, and Lynn Purtz and her husband Charles. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren…Edward Keenan and his wife Cindy, children Isabella and Teddy ; Michael Keenan; Meaghan Scheick and her husband Ben, and children Emily, Sullivan, and Finnegan; Kathleen Hastings and her husband Rob, and children Andrew and Eleanor; Daniel Purtz and his wife Beth, and children Evelyn and James; and Natalie Farrish and her husband Doug, and children Violet and Lucy.

A Funeral Mass will be held on April 24th at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Peace Church, 111 South St., New Providence, NJ.
