Catherine Paulette Marple (Kuhar)
Wednesday, 1 October at 6:10 p.m., our beloved mother Catherine P. Marple (Kuhar) gained her wings. After a long 15-month battle with her third cancer, she left this world surrounded by love, peace, and family - exactly as she lived her life.
Cathy was born on December 1, 1952, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, to George and Betty Kuhar. To know her was to love her. She had the biggest heart and a spirit that could light up any room. She found so much joy in making others feel special - whether through her laughter, her sense of humor, or her ability to listen and make you feel seen.
She was a warrior, the strongest woman we knew. Even on her hardest days, she smiled through the pain and found reasons to be grateful. She was funny, loud, and unapologetically herself. She was the one you could count on to make everyone laugh, to show up when you needed her most, and to love without conditions.
Cathy proudly served her country in the United States Army, where she earned the distinguished honor of Soldier of the Year - a true testament to her dedication, discipline, and leadership. Her time in the military shaped her strength and resilience, qualities that defined every part of her life.
She continued her lifelong service through her deep involvement in her community. Cathy was a devoted member of The American Legion Post 28, where she served as Auxiliary President, Legion Chaplain, and Captain of the Color Guard. She was also a proud member of the Red Hat Society, where she cherished the friendships and laughter she shared with her sisters in red and purple. She was also an active member of the Conrad Alumni Band, where she shared her love of music and camaraderie with lifelong friends.
Cathy was a proud and devoted mother to her two daughters, Yolanda Martin, and Vicky Martin (Lawrence Haskins) and a doting grandmother to Arianna and Jailen - her pride and joy. Her family was her world, and she was the heart of ours.
And anyone who knew her knew she was a die-hard Philadelphia Eagles fan - cheering loud and proud every game day, no matter the score.
She is survived by her two daughters, two grandchildren, sister, Barbara Jean Fogarty (Joe Irwin), many nieces, nephews, and friends who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Betty Kuhar, and her five sisters: Betty Lou Rowe (Jack), Evelyn Pennington (Herb), Patricia "Sue" O'Connor (Rod), Georgiana Kuhar and Mary Smith (John)
