Harriet Marple Obituary

Marple, Harriet
RAVENA - Harriet Marple, 99, of Ravena, entered into eternal rest on October 2, 2025, five days shy of her 100th birthday. Born in Ravena, N.Y., on October 7, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Spencer and Elizabeth (Pausley) Van Wormer.
Harriet is survived by her close family friend and caregiver, Susan E. Cofer of Ravena; her best friend, Roberta Persico of Coeymans, who she called every Tuesday morning; her cousin, Joanne Arnsdorff of Fla.; and Joanne's daughter, Tracy Chaddon of Okla. Harriet was predeceased by her beloved husband, Donald F. Marple; and her brother, Harold A. "Lindy" Van Wormer.
During her lifetime, Harriet worked as an insurance underwriter. She was a member of the board of directors, and also secretary and treasurer, of the Chestnut Lawn Cemetery, New Baltimore, devoted member of the Ravena VFW Post 9594 Auxiliary, and the "highest paid" volunteer at the Samuel S. Stratton Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Albany. Harriet was a wealth of historical knowledge and loved to talk about the history of Ravena and the surrounding hamlets.
Harriet wanted to acknowledge the staff on the cardiac floor of Albany Medical Center and the tremendous care and support she received from the staff at Teresian House during her brief stay. Harriet was truly blessed to be at the Teresian House and was able to see friends she hadn't been able to visit while at home. A special thank you to Don Fruewirth, Fran Hoffman, Bill Horton, Fran Lobdell, Mary Ellen Rosato, Sharon Phillips and Rich Regensberger for assisting Harriet with her everyday needs.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with 1 p.m. funeral services to follow, at the Babcock Funeral Home, 19 Pulver Avenue, Ravena, N.Y. 12143. Burial will take place in the family plot of Chestnut Lawn Cemetery, New Baltimore, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Harriet may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105.
