Catherine Medlen Obituary
Catherine Christine Medlen, lovingly known as "Chris", was born on December 23, 1944, in Washington, DC. She passed away peacefully on July 30, 2025, at the age of 80.
She was predeceased by her parents, John Howard Collins DVM and Mary Elizabeth Collins and her son, James Richard Medlen "Jimmy".
Chris lived a life of quiet strength, deep faith and an unwavering devotion to her family. She was a dedicated wife to her husband, Charlie, for 60 years in a partnership rooted in love, loyalty and shared values. They raised three beautiful children together, Jimmy, Mary and Charlie. Of all the names she was called in her lifetime, 'Grandma' was the one she treasured most. Her grandchildren, Madison Bares, Davis Bares, Owen Medlen and Parker Medlen, brought her endless joy. She was also deeply loved and respected by her son-in-law, Matt and daughter-in-law, Mandy. Her family was the heart of her world, and she cherished any time spent with them.
Chris was known throughout her community as the "walking lady", a familiar and friendly face who greeted everyone with a smile. Walking each morning was how Chris welcomed the day. She found comfort, joy, and stillness in nature. As a woman of simple wisdom, Chris believed in the power of presence over words. Her motto was less is more, yet she gave so much to those around her every day. Her favorite quote was "always be kind, spread happiness, and love with all of your heart". She constantly put others before herself by supporting her loved ones with gratitude, passion, and courage. Chris lived her life with a big heart and will be deeply missed.
